Life is Wild, The CW's series set in the African bush, is winding down to its final episodes before running out of original material. Last night, the freshman show saw Katie (Leah Pipes) turning to volunteer work for HIV-infected teenagers in South Africa as she struggles with remorse over her break-up with Oliver (Calvin Goldspink).

On Sunday, January 20, the trend of failed relationships continues in the episode entitled “P.O.C.”

Will 'Life is Wild' Be Gone for Good?

With the perpetuation of the current writers' guild walkout, The CW's foray into a jungle-set series appears to be nearing its end. The network ordered an initial 13 scripts for Life is Wild before the strike commenced in November. Only 12 of them were actually shot and filmed. To date, there remains no word whether the freshman series will be picked up for another season.

With his show's seemingly imminent demise into oblivion, Life is Wild star D.W. Moffett can at least be grateful that he has a couple of films set for release this year.

The CW announced its revised post-strike schedule today, guaranteeing that big changes are in store for the network as it rolls into midseason. If you're a fan of reality television such as America's Next Top Model, Beauty and the Geek, or anything involving The Pussycat Dolls, you're sure to be happy, but if you're hooked on cult shows like Supernatural or Life is Wild, the news is less promising. Both shows will be disappearing from the CW after they air the remainder of their original episodes, with no repeats scheduled.

Halloween is coming early next year as the horror flick The Caretaker is set to be released on February 14. Fans of The CW's Life is Wild will want to catch this production, as series actor Andrew St. John appears in it as a thrill-seeking teen named Topher.

“It's a little horror flick,” St. John, who plays Jesse Weller on Life is Wild, said of his upcoming movie in an interview with cwsource.tv. “But it's rated well for all ages. I think we're coming in at PG-13. It's nothing really gory. It's the fun, popcorn, go-to-the-movies-see-a-little-scare [type of film.]”

Having no previous acting experience did not stop British pop star Calvin Goldspink from auditioning for the CW's Life is Wild, but the risky move paid off, as he ended up getting cast in the role of Oliver Banks. While actor Andrew St. John has never been forced by his family to relocate to Africa, he says he can relate to his character, Jesse Weller, on the CW's Life is Wild. Those who have been tuning in to the show since it premiered on Sunday, October 7, already know that Jesse, though now part of a complete family, is actually a product of a broken home, something which St. John is all too familiar with.

The CW's new drama, Life is Wild, premiered to last Sunday to sorely disappointing numbers.

The show's debut only earned 1.642 million viewers, not even 10,000 more than the network's worst-ever opening audience of 1.635 million for the summer production, Hidden Palms. Worse yet, only three-tenths of a percent of viewers in the CW's target demographic, 18-to-34-year-olds, were among the ones who tuned in that night, setting a new low for a scripted series on the cable network.

Considering its title and premise, Life is Wild certainly conjures images of nature at its rawest and most untouched. Based on the British series, Wild at Heart, Life is Wild stars Leah Pipes as a disconcerted teenager, upset with her veterinarian father's (D.W. Moffett) decision to move their brood halfway across the globe to an untamed, unforgiving territory. To achieve the authenticity of life in the African setting, Life is Wild is shot on a 1,500-acre farm complete with lions, elephants, hippos, giraffes, impalas, wildebeests and zebras among other beasts. Life is Wild's Stephanie Niznik stars in the upcoming dramatic motion picture, The Twenty. Niznik plays the character, Dot, alongside Clancy Brown of HBO's Carnivale and Chopper Bernet, who essays the lead role of Carty and also directs the film.

Scheduling Changes Announced for NBC and The CW

NBC is turning its Tuesday night programming upside down by putting The Singing Bee on first at 8pm, followed by a 90-minute episode of The Biggest Loser on at 8:30pm.

The Biggest Loser, which began its fourth season on September 11, will have two two-hour episodes beginning at 8pm on September 18 and 25. The following week, The Singing Bee will premiere on Tuesday, October 2 at 8pm.

Last week, it was reported that actor D.W. Moffett would be taking over the role of veterinarian Danny Clarke in the new drama, Life is Wild. Originally, Brett Cullen (Friday Night Lights, Falcon Crest) was assigned to the role, and consequently worked on the show's pilot.

Coming this fall is a drama series adapted by Michael Rauch, George Faber and Charlie Pattinson from popular British drama, Wild at Heart, entitled Life is Wild.
