The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards are this Sunday at 8pm on CBS. Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, it looks like two shows will have a stranglehold on the night: Mad Men for Drama and 30 Rock for Comedy, both coming in with an overwhelming lead in total nominations.

But will they really prevail. Check out the nominees for the major Emmy Drama categories below and who I think will win, then make your own picks and watch along with me Sunday night.

Ted Danson Talks 'Damages' with Ellen DeGeneres and Gets Role in 'Bored to Death'

Playing a one-time billionaire on the small screen might be a real treat for Ted Danson, as he continues portraying his role on the FX series Damages. It was an exciting turn of events for him, accepting the job immediately upon learning Glenn Close was his co-star. Now that the series is on its second season, the renowned actor recently appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to discuss his role and career.

Even though he's busy with his numerous television appearances, Ted Danson was still best known for his portrayal of the lead character Sam Malone on the hit sitcom Cheers. She talked to the host about his previous stint on her show, with Ellen DeGeneres stating that it's been two years since he was last featured on Ellen.

A lot is made of the overwhelming number of great leading roles for women on cable, but if the official Emmy ballots are any indication, women are still a minority when it comes to starring TV roles. On the official ballot sent to Emmy voters, there are 70 contenders for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, but only 48 for the Lead Actress category.

But the numbers don't help the major networks. Despite the fact that more than 60 percent of the potential nominees come from the five major networks, it's the cable guys and gals who take the lead at the Emmys.

The Emmys Report: The Drama Series Race

The ballots are out, the race is on, and soon we will know which lucky shows and actors will be nominated for this year's Emmy Awards. This year the main categories have been expanded to six nominees due to the increasing volume of shows produced. The official Emmy ballot for Outstanding Drama Series lists 76 eligible shows, but that includes everything from last year's winner, Mad Men, to "no chance in Hell: submissions like The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

So who is actually in the hunt? Last year proved that cable networks have finally broken through as it was the first time a cable network other than HBO scored a nomination in this category.

Tonight, Damages concludes its sophomore season with an explosive 90-minute finale that promises to shed light on Ellen's season long quest for revenge. There were a lot of intriguing things that happened all season, but according to series co-creator Glenn Kessler, fans can expect more mayhem as the season comes to a close.

"There's gonna be some major, major upheaval in Patty's life, and Ellen has some coming in her life as well," co-creator Glenn Kessler told TV Guide. "The ground is going to shift considerably. Many of the things we've proposed throughout the season certainly do get knotted up, and these women end the season on very different ground than they started."

We reported that critically acclaimed FX legal thriller Damages returned yesterday for a heavily anticipated sophomore season 15 long months after it wrapped up its maiden voyage. As you may know, Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) just won in rather exceptional fashion over billionaire Arthur Frobisher. She feels as though the legal world is at her feet, so to speak. On last night's episode, Patty was taking a break from the law and pouring her energies into her new charitable foundation. Yet her world was once again thrown upside down when she got a call from Daniel Purcell, a man from her past. Now this case is different, because it has both personal and professional repercussions for her.

In other news, Damages star Rose Byrne, who plays Ellen Parsons, is said to shed her good girl image this season and transform into a manipulative, back-stabbing vixen who's touted to give her boss some competition. Back in season 1, we learned that Parsons is a bright law school graduate who was able to become the new protégée of Patty. Of course, Parsons' relationships with Hewes is not as simple as it looks, especially after Parsons becomes convinced that Hewes might have tried to kill her Instead of running for the hills, Ellen opts to stay put and instead quietly scheme to take Patty down.

Season 2 of 'Damages' Begins Tonight

Damages returns for its sophomore season tonight, 15 months since we last enjoyed the dark legal drama. This season, it's all about characters seeking revenge or repentance. FX Sets Return Dates for 'Nip/Tuck' and 'Damages'

FX has finally set return dates for two of its most promising scripted drama series. Nip/Tuck, the dark medical drama that revolves around two business partners who run an overwhelmingly successful plastic surgery practice, is set to resume its fifth season beginning on Tuesday, January 6 at 10pm. Subsequently, the second season of Damages is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, January 7 at 10pm.

Earlier this season, the two doctors departed Miami for Los Angeles seeking a fresh start for McNamara/Troy in a new city. The drama came to a temporary close as Sean (Dylan Walsh) feared for his life when Colleen Rose escaped from the psych ward and threatened to kill him, Christian (Julian McMahon) reunited with an old flame, and Matt (John Hensley) tried to come to terms with sleeping with his own sister. Julia (Joely Richardson), on the other hand, was rushed to the hospital following the shooting.

'Damages' Actor Heads to 'Big Love'

With the delay of the third season of Big Love, which is expected to return early next year, fans are eager to score some scoops and tidbits about the new season that promises to forever change the lives of the residents of Juniper Creek. Luckily, another update has been given by Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, who revealed that actor Zeljko Ivanek has inked a deal to join the cast of HBO's polygamy-themed series.

Zeljko Ivanek is best known for his Emmy Award-winning role as Ray Fiske on the FX series Damages. Additionally, he has been cast in supporting roles on shows like Homicide: Life on the Street as prosecuting attorney Ed Danvers, Oz as Governor James Devlin, Lost as Edmund Burke, and 24 as Andre Drazen. On the big screen, he is credited for Live Free or Die Hard, Ascension Day, The Manchurian Candidate, Black Hawk Down, Hannibal, Unfaithful and Snow Falling on Cedars, just to name a few.

The 60th Annual Emmy Awards were held tonight. Below you will find a complete list of all the winners from tonight's ceremony. The Drama side was dominated by first-year shows like Mad Men and Damages, each picking up two Emmys. Comedy was ruled by 30 Rock, winning four Emmys, including ones for Series and its two leads, Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin. The night also had quite a few surprises early on, like Jean Smart for Samantha Who?, Diane Wiest for In Treatment and Zeljko Ivanek winning for Damages, as well as Bryan Cranston winning for Breaking Bad.

In other categories, HBO dominated with its TV movie Recount and miniseries John Adams, The Colbert Report won its first-ever Emmy, and Jeff Probst took home the inaugural Emmy for Reality Host.

'Damages' Actor Signs Up for New HBO Comedy

After earning his first Emmy nomination in 15 years for his sinister role as Arthur Frobisher on Damages, since Cheers, Ted Danson is staying on cable as he gets cast in a lead role in HBO's comedy, Bored to Death.

According to The Hollywood, the pilot is written by Jonathan Ames and directed by Alan Taylor. It stars Jason Schwartzman as a struggling Brooklyn writer with a drinking problem who pretends to be a private detective in the vein of his heroes from Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett novels. On the show, Danson plays his mentor-friend and pompous yet but articulate magazine editor.

'Lost,' Best Drama Emmy Nominees Submit Episodes to Academy Voters

Voting for the Emmys is an interesting process. For the Best Drama and Best Comedy categories, all the potential nominees send one episode (one hour, so no two-parters) to the Academy members. Once the final nominations come out, each nominated show then resubmits six hours of television. They put those six hours on three two-hour tapes, and Academy members are sent only two of those tapes. They are distributed randomly, meaning that different Academy members will see different episodes. Why they do this, I have no idea. They just do. Today, our friends at Gold Derby released the episode submissions for each Best Drama nominee. You can find those listed below, with commentary at the bottom.

Damages star Ted Danson is no stranger to the Emmy Awards. He was nominated for eleven straight years—one for each year of his stay in the sitcom Cheers as bartender Sam Malone—and won two of them, in 1990 and 1993. Now he is back on the nominations list, this time for his role as self-made billionaire Arthur Frobisher in the FX legal drama, and he says it means much more for him.

“When you're younger and get nominated, there was part of me—I don't know if I took it for granted—but now it's a very rich experience,” the actor said in an interview with the Associated Press. “This is really lovely.”

This morning the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 60th Annual Emmy Awards.

On the Drama side, the big story is the dominance of cable, picking up the majority of the acting and series nominees with shows from TNT, FX, AMC, Showtime and HBO. Equally surprising is the absence of Grey's Anatomy in the Drama Series race, while Lost makes its triumphant return. For comedies, many old favorites are back with all five nominees for Outstanding Comedy Series having been nominated before. However, several new actors from Pushing Daisies and Samantha Who? were able to make it in. And if you're a fan of smaller categories, Amy Poehler makes a shocking appearance in the Comedy Supporting Actress race for Saturday Night Live while "I'm F***ing Matt Damon" is up for Best Original Song.

Oscar-Winner Marcia Gay Harden Joins 'Damages'

The star of FX's Damages, five-time Oscar-nominated actress Glenn Close, is set to be joined by a fellow multi-awarded actress in the person of Marcia Gay Harden to bolster the already stellar lineup for its coming season. If we backtrack to the second week of June, it was reported that another Oscar-winner William Hurt (King of the Spider Woman) will play a client of Patty Hewes (Close).

Harden, who won an Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Pollock in 2000, will play a powerful attorney who opposes Hewes on a case. In what appears like a trend of veteran actors transitioning to guest starring roles on television series, Harden also guest-starred on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit last year and actually won an Emmy for the role.

Last week, FX announced that Academy Award-winner William Hurt (Kiss of the Spider-Woman) will join the cast of Damages for its upcoming second season. This week, another actor has been recruited to add even more zest to the legal drama.

Damages just added some firepower to an already formidable cast. William Hurt, four-time Oscar nominee (and one time winner), has just signed on to join the cast of Damages for its second season, which is set to begin filming in New York City next week. The FX drama is coming off a critically acclaimed first season, and is another in a long line of hard-hitting original programs from the cable network. Hurt will portray a client of Glenn Close's attorney character Patty Hewes. This marks a reunion of sorts – Close and Hurt co-starred in The Big Chill twenty five years ago. They have not shared the screen since.
