With the CSI crossovers last week wrapped up, it's back to business as usual on the franchise's front--and for CSI: Miami, it means the (slightly?) dramatic stuff. Or, perhaps, surprising guest stars. Like tonight's episode, for instance.

Sure, some of you may have seen Pau Gasol, also known as the guy from the Los Angeles Lakers, act a bit in an episode of Numb3rs. Still, a basketball player jumping to acting isn't exactly a common sight: that's something reserved for Michael Jordan or Shaquille O'Neal. Then again, Gasol did say he loves acting, too. Let's see what he can do tonight.

'CSI: Trilogy' Review, Part 3: A Missed Opportunity?

The CSI crossover episodes wrapped up last night, with Langston returning to Las Vegas to solve one case with implications to the bigger case he's been following: the disappearance of Madeline Briggs, who apparently was caught in the middle of a trucking ring that dealt with prostitution and illegal organ harvesting. By now the ground rules have been more than set: each of the episodes this week are stand-alone ones, with a common thread, and Langston, linking across the three. By the time we got to Thursday night, I honestly didn't have any expectations, because Langston is back in his home turf.

Therefore, it felt like watching any other CSI episode. It's a little weirder than watching CSI: NY two nights ago: even if it felt like nothing much has changed, the present of a central figure in a sister show changes the mood a bit. Last night just wrapped everything up: the Langston we saw was the Langston that was established the past week--dedicated and passionate to a fault. The only thing holding me on to it, admittedly, was the promise that the storyline I followed over the past week will be wrapped up here. And it was: they did find Madeline, but many others continue to be victimized, because he's obviously not out (or not capable) of bringing down a country-wide trucking ring.

'CSI: Trilogy' Review, Part 2: Just Like Any Other, Only A Bit More Personal

The CSI crossover going on this week may involve one story split across three shows, but in reality it's really three different crimes with one common thread. I thought it was the former after watching CSI: Miami Monday night, with the cliffhanger of sorts about a woman leaving a written plea for help inside a truck stop's restroom. I tune in to CSI: NY last night and realize that we won't see much of a connection between what we saw before and what we're seeing now.

Sure, there's Madeline Briggs. Pegged in part one of the crossover as a suspect in the murder of a model wannabe, she has become the victim--the person Mac and the team must save as quickly as possible, before she dies of the grim circumstances she got herself in: possibly prostitution, possibly organ farm. Maybe it's just me and my expectations of the crossover, but there was a bit of disappointment when the NYPD finally got in touch with Langston (who's still billeted in Miami) and suddenly all these details that we didn't see before came in. The missing notice we didn't hear of, the death of the guy accompanying Madeline over there. It feels a bit plastered in.

'CSI: Trilogy' Review, Part 1: A Riveting (Slight) Mismatch

Last night was the beginning of what is arguably the biggest thing that could happen to the CSI franchise: one storyline, across three shows, all in one week. Now, why did this take so long to happen? Surely there are a lot more crimes that are connected to other occurrences in other cities, right? Well, we've had a few crossovers within the franchise before, and only because it's what the case calls for, and for that I'm willing to let go of that little complaint of mine. Besides, this is looking pretty good already.

As we've all known for the past few months, Laurence Fishburne will make an appearance on all three shows, as Langston goes cross-country solving a crime that is more complicated and widespread than it looks. The opening salvo was on last night's CSI: Miami, when the MDPD crime lab's investigation into the murder of a missing girl uncovers something bigger than they thought. Just proves how small the world can be, since limbs from two different people were dumped in the same place... but I digress.

After last week's relatively serious CSI: Miami episode--it's hard to say that with a straight face, oh, chuckle!--it's time to get back to the serious stuff, and perhaps one of the biggest episodes not just of the show, but of the entire franchise as well. Hello, CSI Trilogy.

In case you haven't heard of this yet (which would be a surprise), the next week sees the LVPD's Ray Langston go across the country to investigate a crime. Sure, some may scoff at the idea of relative newcomer Laurence Fishburne doing a crossover with all three CSI shows--from Miami tonight to New York in a couple of days and back to Las Vegas on Thursday--solely because there are other cast members who have been with the show longer, but I trust this week's episodes will be pretty good. Hey, it's Laurence Fishburne! He's done good stuff before joining the show.

And it happens: an end date, at least a hypothetical one, for Delko's career as a CSI. Of course we all saw it coming--the question, of course, is when. And since he has around seven episodes left, if I counted correctly, we might expect him around a bit longer. Never mind the moment between him and Calleigh at the end of the episode.

Don't fear, though, for Delko will be around in tonight's CSI: Miami. Could be a chance for him to prepare for a fun life as a carefree bachelor--unless he proposes marriage, of course--for tonight's case is a bit like The Hangover, only a bit more stoned, or so it seems. The team investigates whatever's left behind of an apparently crazy bachelor's party, and they have to recreate all those crazy things, just to solve a murder and find the missing groom.

NBA's Pau Gasol Confirms 'CSI: Miami' Guest Role

Basketball junkies, in case you haven't seen Pau Gasol's acting chops on Numb3rs some time back, you have another chance to see it again--on CSI: Miami. The Los Angeles Lakers star confirmed to Spanish newspaper El Pais that he is making a guest appearance on an upcoming episode of the CBS crime drama, expected to air next month.

"It was a very attractive opportunity," the athlete said. "I play Victor, a normal person who is involved in a car accident and police are suspicious that I am responsible for what happened. I have good, meaty dialogue with the officer."

Apart from the straight-from-the-headlines story and the admittedly icky prospect of being thrown inside an airplane toilet, more or less, I had one realization from last week's CSI: Miami: I soooo love Walter Simmons. Thank you for making him a regular character.

Speaking of regular characters, there's a limited amount of space, and someone has to go, and it seems we're being set up for Delko's departure from the MDPD crime lab. Again, I'm just basing things on the promo, but looks like the relationship between Delko and Calleigh will really turn a new corner--because, all of a sudden, one of them won't be around the office. They'll be apart more often. And that's just physical connections.

Or as I'd like to call it, "Langston week", so that it's easier for fans to keep track, or for those who aren't that fond of the idea, to stay away.

CBS has finally released official details on Laurence Fishburne's three-part CSI crossover. Quick history lesson: for a week in November, he'll appear on CSI: Miami and CSI: NY, apart from his home show, CSI. Of course, we'll have more details as they come (which is why I won't be posting photos yet), but here's what you should expect--and here's why Langston's headed to those cities in the first place.

The most important bit from last week's CSI: Miami was, probably, the bit about cougars and the thing about double standards in society. Then again, the way the murders were committed was probably ridiculous, to say the least. And then I couldn't care less about the suspects. I was honestly focused on a couple of things: the new cast members, and the old ones.

Last week, we were introduced to the new medical examiner, Tom Loman, who seems to be extremely giddy with things, a bit like Hodges over at CSI. And then there's Walter Simmons, the new lab tech who looks like the type of guy who'd be the life of the party. One episode is not enough to see how these two fare, though, so I'm keeping shut on that.

Remember news that Laurence Fishburne is doing a three-part crossover, with him guest starring on both CSI: Miami and CSI: NY on the same week, apart from his duties on CSI? We're slowly getting some details as to what exactly will transpire on those three episodes next month. And sure, it's too early for this, but we might as well form this little puzzle. What's going to happen?

The folks at CBS have released three photos for the second part of the crossover series--CSI: NY's part of the deal, so to speak. Three photos of Langston working with Mac, and with the rest of the NYPD crime lab. And it says quite a lot--well, the descriptions, at least.

If you caught the promos for tonight's CSI: Miami, you might be thinking that the way those three unlucky volleyball players die. Might've been heatstroke, but dropping dead in the middle of a game, almost at the same time? Something sinister is at work. And what Horatio thought were bite marks? Something even more sinister is at work.

Well, that's what will happen on tonight's episode, although I can't really tell how this will lead them to what I've always called a "charitable cougar"--a regular at fundraisers who like having relations with younger men. Again, I'll refer to the promos, and it seems newcomer-ish Jesse will get some of that attention. There really should be a period of calm after last week's hostage crisis.

Omar Miller Gets 'CSI: Miami' Regular Role

Looks like Eddie Cibrian isn't the only new face on CSI: Miami.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Omar Miller is joining the crime drama's cast as a series regular. He is set to debut on next week's episode. That makes it two new team members in two straight episodes, or something like that.

Last week, on the CSI: Miami season premiere, we were warped back to 1997, and to the origins of the CSI team at MDPD--the day Delko left his job as a tow truck driver, the day Calleigh started talking about science, the day Tripp had hair, the day Natalia worked for the FBI, the day Ryan was still a young kid, and the day Horatio gained his pair of shades. Voila: the team is born.

CSI: Miami: One Step In The Right Direction, And Then Some

Last night's season premiere of CSI: Miami didn't really add much. Just forty minutes' worth of backstory, of looking back at how the Special Investigations Unit evolved with the help of science, a tow truck driver, and the need for a pair of shades. And, perhaps most importantly, a look back at how long Horatio's tied with Eric have been--turns out, really, really long, longer than the twelve years back in time we've traveled.

That aside, I absolutely love this episode. Perhaps it's the power of good editing--the episode's first five minutes, anyone? Sure, that gimmick eventually dried up, but there's something pretty heart-warming with this episode that I haven't seen the show do right in a really long time. I can't really explain it. The only thing is, they got it right.

Of course, we all know what's going to happen already, more or less. Tonight marks the start of the CSI premieres, with CSI: Miami kicking off tonight, and with a time machine, more or less.

And of course, we all know where we're going to start on tonight's season premiere, the show's eighth. Delko's spotted wounded, falls into a coma, flashes back to 1997, and gives us a look back at the early days of the team. Horatio with more hair. Tripp with hair. Alexx with big hair. Ryan... well, Ryan's nowhere. Jesse is here, though, also known as Adam Rodriguez replacement (of sorts) Eddie Cibrian.

Adam Rodriguez Sparks Romance on 'Ugly Betty'

We've got more exciting casting news for the new season of Ugly Betty, since another name has been added to the series' guest-star list. TV Guide reports that Adam Rodriguez of CSI: Miami fame will be heading to New York, hoping to stir some trouble and comedy for the ABC show.

It's been confirmed that the 34-year-old actor will be playing a former flame of Hilda, the beloved sister of Betty. We reported earlier that Ana Ortiz, who plays the older Suarez sibling, is hoping to have another baby in real life. While this doesn't really translate into getting a boyfriend on TV, it's pretty close.

Hello, Slightly Underappreciated 'CSI' Characters

"Good point," I thought, when I read someone's question to the folks at TVGuide.com. "Is there any scoop for Greg on CSI?" it went. "We've heard something about everyone else but him."

And indeed, there hasn't been much on Greg. Same goes for CSI: Miami's Ryan, a fact that I remembered when someone asked me for details about the half-forever outsider of the MDPD crime lab. So I'm going to make this an appreciation of sorts, for the slightly underappreciated characters in the CSI franchise. Sorts, because I don't have info on everyone, I'm afraid.

Finally, we hear from Adam Rodriguez himself about his departure (of sorts) from CSI: Miami. So he finds himself shot, in a coma, and then just disappearing, more or less. And the reasons are, well, other opportunities--that, and reading between the lines, it's something he didn't exactly expect.

"It was just that time in my career," he told Latina magazine. "I just felt like I'm really ready to see what life has to offer next; as an artist, you want to branch out and do other things. It was all pretty sudden, but it's something to look forward to and see what the next adventure will be."

CBS has released a short clip off the season premiere of CSI: Miami, and obviously, I thought I'd share it with you. Nothing really groundbreaking here: just Horatio talking to a comatose Delko, being emotional and all that, mentioning Marisol and basically begging him to fight everything and wake up.

Sorry, folks, it seems we won't be getting a peek at the deliciously vintage look that this episode will show. Remember, we will be transported to 1997, way before the current crime lab was born. (You can, of course, check the photos here before all that.)
