CBS Announces Fall Premiere Dates

Today CBS announced when its fall shows will premiere, and many of the dates are easy to remember because CBS is essentially launching all of its shows in a single week. From Monday, September 21 to Sunday, September 27, CBS will premiere all but two of its shows.

Those exceptions include the newest season of Survivor, which premieres one week early to allow a two-hour premiere on Thursday. September 17, and the series premiere of Three Rivers starring Moonlight's Alex O'Loughlin which comes Sunday, October 4, one week late to allow The Amazing Race to have a two-hour premiere.

Continuing in this exciting week of Fall schedules, CBS revealed its lineup today, and while many shows remain fixed, there are some big moves.?? The Mentalist, this past season's top new show, will get the coveted post-CSI timeslot Thursdays at 10pm.

And one day after NBC officially cancelled Medium, CBS scooped it up and Patricia Arquette will now see ghosts right after Jennifer Love Hewitt does the same thing on Ghost Whisperer.

It's been nine long months since inconsolable Moonlight fans last saw Alex O'Loughlin playing sexy vampire turned private investigator Mick St. John. Soon, however, he'll be returning to our small screens when he joins the cast of Criminal Minds.

According to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, the Moonlight star will be returning to CBS to play a serial killer in at least one episode of Criminal Minds, which is tentatively scheduled to air in April. This marks O'Loughlin's first TV comeback following the cancellation of his cult-favorite paranormal series.

Criminal Minds: J.J. Jareau Returns Earlier than Expected

Criminal Minds fans who have been missing J.J. Jareau will soon have a quick dose of the blooming special agent. As reported before, the show has incorporated an expectant J.J. to accommodate the real-life childbirth and maternity leave of cast member A.J. Cook. This means, JJ will be giving birth simultaneously with her portrayer. And because of this, Cook was originally set to return to work at her leisure, but ideally in time for midseason.

But according to TV Guide, Cook will be returning to Criminal Minds earlier than expected. She will resurface no later than next week when J.J. pays the BAU a visit with her own newborn in tow.

Tonight's Criminal Minds is the second part of a two-part episode to close this Reid-retracing-back-his-past storyline. The previous investigation is apparently not a done deal at least for him, as he discovered connections between the case and his own past.

On the last episode of Criminal Minds, the team barged into a house basement where they discovered the body of a young boy. Of course, it would turn out to be a dream, nevertheless we get a hint that it was going to be a Reid-centric (Matthew Gray Gubler) episode. When the team went back to business, they found out two boys who've gone missing with both parents being taunted meaning the cases are connected somehow. Wouldn't you know it, Reid had another dream. He walked down into a dark basement and saw the six-year-old boy and started rubbing his chest and found leeches covering his entire body.

Next week, Criminal Minds will be airing “Penelope,” the eighth episode of the third season which originally aired on November 21, 2007. This installment marked the appearance of Nicholas Brendon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), who became part of a storyline that saw the BAU team reuniting to determine if Garcia's life is being threatened by a serial killer. The week after that, however, the police procedural will be airing a new episode that features two notable guests.

Criminal Minds executive producer Ed Bernero was a Chicago cop for 10 years. As the crime drama prepares for a supposedly explosive fourth season on September 24, 9pm on CBS, Bernero relates what he does to motivate his fellow writers and actors and make them feel, in essence, how they should feel when in pursuit of criminals. Using the example of a simple, mundane foot chase, Bernero starts by detailing how the emotion and physical exhaustion would really feel.

“A few weeks ago,” he began his lesson on a column, “I used this "war story" to explain to a member of my cast what he would be feeling when he ran out onto a subway platform and realized he had lost sight of the dangerous suspect he was chasing (if you watch the Criminal Minds season premiere, you'll know the exact moment I'm talking about). I told him that foot chases aren't just about physical exertion. They are emotional roller coasters.”

Criminal Minds is set to return for its fourth season this fall on September 24, 8pm on CBS. If we'd go back, season 3 saw David Rossi taking over for Jason Gideon, who, meanwhile, left the BAU after his friend Sarah was found to have been murdered by a serial killer. As a result, the team is now lead by Special Agent Aaron Hotchner.
