Nope, No 'Dr. Horrible' or 'Buffy' on Joss Whedon's 'Glee'

Since you suggested I do so a few weeks back, I watched "Once More with Feeling"--that Buffy episode that cemented Joss Whedon's reputation for whipping up all these musical stuff. And, well, it was fun. Fun, and very meticulous.

So I wondered, since Joss himself wrote those songs, that it's possible some of the songs on that episode will appear on the future Glee episode he will helm. Who knows? It'd be funny seeing Finn go "let me rest in peace" or something, maybe when confronted by his liking for Rachel, "his baby" with Quinn, and all the stuff that led him to Vitamin D in the first place.

And just when I thought Glee couldn't get any more surprising, they pull off another one.

Joss Whedon has signed on to direct one of the back nine episodes of the hit musical comedy (or whatever-you-call-it-nowadays) series, Entertainment Weekly reports. The man who gave us a musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and made Neil Patrick Harris sing in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is, apparently a gleek like us, too, so having him direct an episode was just a matter of scheduling.

There are obviously some similarities between The Vampire Diaries and Twilight, no matter what Damon Salvatore might have to say about it. But after watching the fourth episode, I realized that, when you start looking at the characters and storylines, The Vampire Diaries has a lot more in common with Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

A little more than a decade after Buffy hit our TVs, The Vampire Diaries is following an eerily similar path, with similar relationships, plot devices, and romances. Here are just a few of the shocking similarities I've discovered.

Saturday night of Comic-Con, at the Entertainment Weekly / SyFy party, my world came crashing down. I'm a huge fan of Joss Whedon and I'm generally obsessed with Firefly. I haven't had the time to make a fan vid about it yet, but believe me, I will. So, imagine my utter despair as Joss Whedon told me that Firefly is over. "No one's ever given me the slightest hope," he said when asked about the franchise. I might be naive, but that's not the answer I was expecting. Comic books, straight to dvd, nothing?

San Diego Comic-Con 2009 Sunday Schedule

The last of the Comic-Con schedules have been released and we now have a full list of TV shows, movies, and other entities attending this year's festivities. You've all been waiting for it: Sunday will play host to the Supernatural and Smallville panels. Can't wait? Neither can we. Unfortunately, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki aren't confirmed as of yet, but who knows what will happen over the next couple of weeks.

Sunday is "Kid's Day" so there are a lot of Kid friendly activities included in the schedule. Obviously, those activities aren't in our top picks for the day so if you'd like to check them out, view the full schedule here.

The highlight, for me, is that Buffy The Musical will be the last Comic-Con activity this year. Way to go out with a bang!

San Diego Comic-Con Releases Friday Schedule

First, let's get this out in the open: initial reports said that Supernatural and Smallville will have their panels on Sunday so don't freak out that the shows aren't included in the first two days.

Other than that, Friday's schedule looks amazing. Although my TV favorites aren't on the list, my movie favorites are. There a a couple more timing conflicts and I'm guessing that people are going to have to make some tough choices. When in doubt, stick with Whedon, Rodriguez, Cameron and Jackson.

Comic-Con this year is going to be huge. I mean huge. More TV shows and movies are premiering than ever before. After Twilight's huge success last year, marketers are starting to take notice. Comic-Con equals an intense fan base and everyone knows how help die-hard fans are.

So I'm obsessed with "fan vids" otherwise known as fan videos. I love the music video ones (I've made a couple myself - let me know if you want to see a solid Logan and Veronica vid) and I'm a huge fan of crossover videos. Especially when done right.

Someone just did it right. Jonathan McIntosh has put together a video called "Buffy vs Edward (Twilight Remixed) and it's awesome. Watch as Robert Pattinson's Edward Cullen stalks Sarah Michelle Gellar's Buffy Summer. Buffy and Twilight fans will get a kick out of this one:

Twitter Race Results: The Buffy Movie is Doomed Without Joss

Yesterday BuddyTV started a Twitter race to see what fans thought of the new Buffy movie. The response was overwhelming. Hundreds of you chose a side, and this argument is rather one-sided. If you want to see the full result visit Twitter Search and type in the two hashtags: #No2Buffy and #Yes2Buffy. I will tell you this: I doubt the turtle will be winning this one.

Fans are outraged that a Buffy movie dare be created without the mastermind Joss Whedon behind it. It's a blatant attempt to capitalize on the current vampire craze. Rather than come up with a new idea, Hollywood wants to potentially ruin a good thing. However, if Joss Whedon had some say then most of you would agree with the movie. As Buffy the Vampire Slayer could live on with the same wit and creativity of the television show. As for the cast, you seem a bit conflicted. Many of you want to keep the same cast members as the show. But, as several of you pointed out, it's been years since the TV show ended and the actors would be too old.

Earlier this week it was announced that there is a Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie in the works. Normally, this would have Buffy and Joss fans in a frenzy of excitement. But there's a catch! It's not likely that any of the cast from the hit TV show will be a part of it, and neither will creator/director Joss Whedon.

This got me thinking, well what's the point? You take away the ingredients that made the television show a success, what are you left with? The disaster that was the first Buffy film? Or a reinvented success?

New 'Buffy' Movie Angers Fans

Today the Hollywood Reporter revealed that plans for a potential new Buffy the Vampire Slayer film are moving forward and that producer Fran Rubel Kuzui is looking to relaunch the franchise...without Joss Whedon.

The man who has become synonymous with Buffy won't have any hand in the new film. Instead, a new Buffy would likely be a relaunch of the series without including any of the key figures from the series such as Xander, Willow or Angel. In other words, it's Buffy in name only.

'How I Met Your Mother' Star Alyson Hannigan is Pregnant

It looks like we'll be adding one more actress to the recent baby bump brigade. Following the rampant rumors of Jennifer Aniston and Jamie Lynn Spears' pregnancies, People.com reported this morning that Alyson Hannigan is pregnant. Alyson, 34, and husband Alexis Denisof, 42, announced that they are expecting their first child this spring.

Currently, Alyson Hannigan stars as Lily Aldrin on the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Jason Segel plays her TV husband, Marshall Erikson. I consider Lily and Marshall television's best couple and Hannigan's pregnancy might mean a pregnancy for Lily. In general, I'm not a fan of babies on TV, but Lily and Marshall have always wanted to start a family. I'm really not sure how I feel about it. I'm like Natalie Imbrulia: Torn. There's no news yet on how Hannigan's pregnancy might affect the fourth season.

The WB is Resurrected Online

I love the CW for bringing me Gossip Girl and for having the guts to resurrect 90210, but there's no denying that the network pales in comparison to the glory days of the WB. For those of us who were teenagers in the '90s the WB was a truly special network. They brought us such classic shows as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dawson's Creek, Gilmore Girls and Felicity, and such charmingly forgettable fare as Blue Collar TV, The Mountain, Tarzan and Black Sash. It's hard not to feel affection for that bygone era, even if it did produce atrocities like 7th Heaven.

The WB may no longer exist on television, but it's currently enjoying a resurrection on the Internet. TheWB.com launched yesterday and features full episodes of many of the shows mentioned above, as well as games, a blog, desktop wallpapers and some original web series.

I sat through over a dozen panels during my time at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, and though they were all a lot of fun, certain moments will stick in my mind forever. Attending the convention is like getting a chance to sit in a room and chat with all of your favorite celebrities. On one level you can't believe you're so close to people you've only seen on screen, and on another level it all seems perfectly natural. No matter how much you worship a particular actor or creator, Comic-Con helps to remind you that they're all just regular people. It's oddly comforting, and it makes even the biggest of stars seem more relatable.

After thinking back over the many panels I attended, I chose five of my favorite moments from the convention. It wasn't easy to narrow down, but these are the things that I'll definitely never forget.

'Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog' Returns to the Web

You just can't keep a good super-villain down. Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, the Internet musical from Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind Joss Whedon, was yanked from DrHorrible.com less than a week after it became available. The goal was to allow hardcore fans a chance to see it for free, then hope they'd either buy it on iTunes or wait for the eventual DVD. Shelling out cash to see Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Nathan Fillion (Firefly) sing catchy ditties won't be necessary just yet, as Dr. Horrible has now reappeared on Hulu and MySpace, with plans to bring it to Yahoo!, AOL and other websites. There are some writers in the entertainment industry who aren't particularly entertaining when forced to speak, but Joss Whedon is not one of them. The man is just as witty and hilarious as the characters he brought to life on shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly. When I fall in love with a new project from one of my favorite writers I usually have plenty of time to spend with it before it comes to an end. That's not the case with Joss Whedon's Internet musical extravaganza, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. The three-act series about a lovelorn supervillain just started last Tuesday, and today the final installment was released on iTunes and at DrHorrible.com. It'll be available for free on the website until Sunday, then will disappear until a DVD packed with special features is released sometime in the future. Though it's sad to see such a wonderful, unique project come to an end, at least Dr. Horrible goes out on top.

Part Two of 'Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog' Even Better Than the First

Neil Patrick Harris is amazing. This shouldn't be news to me, since I've seen a few episodes of How I Met Your Mother and delighted in his performances in both Harold & Kumar movies, but sometimes it takes an extra special project to really bring out an actor's greatness. In Joss Whedon's Internet musical Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Harris has found a role that allows him to utilize his perfect comic timing, excellent singing ability and natural charm. He's the hero, the villain and the heart of the piece, and in act two of the three act musical, which premiered today at DrHorrible.com, he really gets to shine. The second part of Whedon's project is even better than the first, and it left me wishing that the adventures of Dr. Horrible could continue for years to come.

Emerald City ComiCon: Q&A Session with Julie Benz

Julie Benz graciously attended the Emerald City ComiCon held in Seattle, Washington this past weekend. Probably best known for playing the vampire Darla on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, Benz participated in a Q and A session during the event, allowing fans to personally ask her questions.

Benz started out the session tentatively, just repeating "Hi" over and over again. It was endearing that she looked so hesitant and awkward at being in the spotlight.
