Several weeks ago, Wrestlemania 25 was looking bad - perhaps historically bad. Even though no matches had been announced, you didn't need a Ouija board to guess where the storylines were headed. Randy Orton won the Royal Rumble and earned the right to challenge for the world championship at Wrestlemania. That made sense on the surface. Randy Orton is the most hated villain in wrestling. He inspires such an instinctively hateful reaction in fans that their eyes narrow and their jaws tighten every time he opens his mouth He could make a donation to a food bank and people would boo. If you want millions of people to shell out forty dollars for a wrestling pay-per-view just tell them that Randy Orton is going to get stomped into marmalade. Since the WWE champion is John Cena, the baby faced poster boy of the WWE, hero of children and lover of women, he was Orton's obvious opponent and that made sense. Classic wrestling logic says Cena should fight Orton in the main event of Wrestlemania.

There's just one problem with that match: It sucks. We've seen it. A lot. In fact, it was two thirds of the main event of Wrestlemania last year. Cena and Orton routinely bump into each other on RAW. A John Cena vs. Randy Orton main event has about as much appeal as Home Alone IV or a sequel to Titanic where Jack's alive and trapped on another sinking ship with Rose. Sometimes it's best to just let these things go.

WWE No Way Out: Our Report From the Scene

February has never exactly been the most celebratory time of the year. Other months have Christmas or Thanksgiving but Valentine's Day is an occasion a lot of us don't even want to remember. The football playoffs are over but the baseball season hasn't started yet. The awards showcase movies are leaving theaters but the blockbusters won't be here for months. Really, February just amounts to 28 more days of cold without a whole lot worth blowing a kazoo over. Given the season it's no big surprise that WWE's February tradition, No Way Out, has never ranked highly among most fans‘ lists of the pay-per-views they look forward to. No Way Out is typically a forty dollar commercial for Wrestlemania, less eventful than the episodes of RAW and Smackdown that came before it. So when the World Heavyweight Champion lost the title about five minutes into the opening match I thought there had been a mistake.

I was sitting in the ninth row of the Key Arena, my elbow hanging out into the entrance ramp. Fans were still taking their seats, buying beer and running through their cell phone directory looking for people to blast with crowd noise. I was still excited
about the fact that I'd gotten to touch The Undertaker's coat when the ring handlers were taking it back to the dressing room. It's fuzzy, by the way, and thick. I think it would be uncomfortably warm. Jeff Hardy and Edge were working some basic chain wrestling and wrestling school mat take-downs in the ring. Then, without warning, Jeff Hardy rolled him up and got the pin.

Trish Stratus Makes A Surprise Return on 'WWE Monday Night Raw'

After retiring from wrestling in 2006, Trish Stratus made an unexpected comeback on last night's WWE Monday Night RAW. In the main event from Toronto, the former WWE Women's champion teamed up with John Cena to defeat Santino Marella and current Women's champion Beth Phoenix.

Evidently, Cena needed a female tag partner and he initially enlisted Kelly Kelly's services, but Kelly left the building when The Miz teased that her hotel room was trashed. Cena then somehow was able to find Trish Stratus on short notice and get her to the building as his replacement tag partner less than 30 minutes before the main event.

WWE: Armageddon Results

Last night marked the ninth Armageddon event produced by Word Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). The event took place at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, New York and featured talents from WWE Raw, SmackDown, and ECW brands in seven professional matches that were scheduled on the event's card.

As always, yesterday's brawl involved different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds, plots and storylines. These wrestlers portrayed a villain or a hero as they followed a series of events that built tension, and culminated into a wrestling match or series of matches.

Vince McMahon Envisions World Domination Through 'WWE RAW'

WWE Raw, which currently airs on the USA cable network, has been a TV staple for more than a decade. It averages more than 5 million viewers a week and is the number 1 weekly program on cable TV. Yesterday, the program, which combines elements of action, soap opera drama and rock music, celebrated its 800th episode milestone with a three-hour special live broadcast in Tampa, Florida. Such longevity is perceived as validation of the durability of the show's format, according to Vince McMahon, chairman of the board of directors of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), and WWE's majority shareholder.

Freddie Prinze, Jr. Joins Forces with the WWE

The line between wrestling and show business isn't thin, it's completely non-existent. Wrestlers like The Rock and John Cena have crossed over into movies, while celebrities like David Arquette and Kevin Federline have promoted themselves shamelessly on wrestling programs. The only real difference between the WWE and Hollywood is that only one requires an abundance of body-slamming and spandex.

Today has brought us yet another example of the invisible barrier between wrestling and Hollywood. Freddie Prinze, Jr., who's perhaps better known as Mr. Sarah Michelle Gellar or the lauded thespian from She's All That, will be taking on a role behind the scenes on shows such as WWE Raw and Friday Night Smackdown.
