Season Finale Previews: 'Wife Swap' and 'Supernanny'

There will be two seasons to watch for on Friday, as domestic-themed ABC reality series Wife Swap and Supernanny close their respective seasons with great episodes. Wife Swap and Supernanny, which were both recently renewed by ABC, will air their finales at 8pm and 9pm respectively.

On Wife Swap, the season finale will feature a family that operates a haunted house attraction swap with a strict, old-fashioned family that doesn't even allow their kids to watch the television or surf the internet. Somehow, only cobwebs are the only things that these two families have in common.

ABC Brings Back 'Wife Swap' and 'Supernanny' Tonight

ABC viewers will get a dose of reality TV as it airs new episodes of Wife Swap and Supernanny tonight. While both programs are of British origin, the former features two families, usually from vastly different social classes and lifestyles, as they swap wives or mothers for two weeks. The latter, on the other hand, follows professional nanny Jo Frost as she helps parents discipline their children and maintain order in their households.

Wife Swap: Two families with vastly different lifestyles trade mothers/wives for two weeks.

Supernanny: Each week, British nanny Jo Frost visits a different American family whose children have uncontrollable behavior problems. She helps the parents learn a variety of techniques for maintaining discipline and order within the household.

Finally. After a month of holidays, egg nog, and more Snoopy and Ralphie Parker than one knows what to do with, we're finally back to normal. January is upon us, 2007 has begun its tyrannical, 300-plus day reign, and our favorite TV shows will no longer bludgeon us with repeats. Tomorrow, January 3rd, brings the return of a couple of our favorites, as well as two brand new shows. After that, the flood begins, and over the next month virtually every original program will air new episodes. A full list of the returning dates for most every show on television is after the jump.

Wife Swap (Two ABC Executives sit in a screening room watching the ???Freddie??? pilot. No laughs were heard.) ABC Executive #1: Hey, I have a good idea for show. ABC Executive #2: Does it involve exploiting people? ABC Executive #1: Of course. We take two families that are wildly different (intelligent and simple, white and black, pious and morally corrupt) and then we have them trade moms for a week. Chaos ensues. ABC Executive #2: Hmm. Good idea, but I worry that it might turn into a valuable social experiment, juxtaposing the merits of opposing family values and making insightful comments on state of the American family. No one will watch that. ABC Executive #1: You're right. We'll have to make sure we cast families that are completely insane. ABC Executive #2: And stupid. ABC Executive #1: Right. And stupid. Wife Swap is a show that makes me cringe. You expect it from FOX, but ABC is supposed to be above this pandering to the lowest common denominator.
