People's Choice Award Nominees: 'True Blood,' 'Gossip Girl' and the Usual Suspects

This morning the People's Choice Award nominations were revealed, and as always, it's populism at its best. On the TV side, the nominees often look like the top of the Nielsen ratings list, with a few notable and surprising exceptions. Shows like True Blood and Gossip Girl crept into the Favorite TV Actress categories while Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show features Lost, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural.

However, those are the very cool exceptions. For the most part, the list is full of CSI, NCIS, Grey's Anatomy, Two and a Half Men and other top-rated shows. Here are the major television nominees for this year's People's Choice Awards.

Fall TV Season Officially Starts with 'Heroes,' 'House,' and 'Dancing with the Stars'

The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards are this Sunday at 8pm on CBS. Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, it looks like two shows will have a stranglehold on the night: Mad Men for Drama and 30 Rock for Comedy, both coming in with an overwhelming lead in total nominations.

2009 Emmy Nominations Preview: What to Expect

It's Emmy nomination eve as TV fans are looking forward to tomorrow morning's Emmy nominations, announced at 8:35am ET by Grey';s Anatomy's Chandra Wilson and The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons.

This year there are plenty of interesting changes and storylines going into the announcement. As always, Grey's Anatomy has plenty of drama, with Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight's behind-the-scenes decisions and Patrick Dempsey's choice to submit himself as a supporting actor for the first time. Expanding the major acting and series categories to six nominees each should also add some extra spice into the morning.

CBS Announces Fall Premiere Dates

Today CBS announced when its fall shows will premiere, and many of the dates are easy to remember because CBS is essentially launching all of its shows in a single week. From Monday, September 21 to Sunday, September 27, CBS will premiere all but two of its shows.

Those exceptions include the newest season of Survivor, which premieres one week early to allow a two-hour premiere on Thursday. September 17, and the series premiere of Three Rivers starring Moonlight's Alex O'Loughlin which comes Sunday, October 4, one week late to allow The Amazing Race to have a two-hour premiere.

CBS' Fall Lineup: 'Medium' Changes Networks, 'Mentalist' Changes Nights

Continuing in this exciting week of Fall schedules, CBS revealed its lineup today, and while many shows remain fixed, there are some big moves.?? The Mentalist, this past season's top new show, will get the coveted post-CSI timeslot Thursdays at 10pm.

And one day after NBC officially cancelled Medium, CBS scooped it up and Patricia Arquette will now see ghosts right after Jennifer Love Hewitt does the same thing on Ghost Whisperer.

Two and a Half Men: Preview of Finale "Baseball was Better with Steroids"

Tonight on the season finale of Two and Half Men - "Baseball was Better with Steroids" - Mia's (Emmanuelle Vaugier) return finds Charlie (Charlie Sheen) questioning his devotion to Chelsea (Jennifer Bini Taylor). The guys rush a laboring Judith (Marin Hinkle) to the hospital, and Alan (Jon Cryer) fears he might be the father.

Now on its sixth season, critics didn't foresee the longevity of the CBS comedy. For instance, its last episode reeled in 14.2 million viewers. So far, this season posts a 15 million average in terms of ratings, an improvement from its already admirable 13.6 million numbers last season.

Last night's episode of Two and a Half Men saw a family affair as the Harper brothers got a visit from one actor's real-life sibling. As reported previously, Emilio Estevez signed on to guest star on the CBS sitcom to play old a womanizing friend, whose death makes Charlie take a hard look at his own reckless lifestyle.

"The character was designed to be an old friend of Charlie's who shared a lot of his decadent traits," exec producer Chuck Lorre said. "It seemed like a natural fit to have a family member who knows Charlie very well play that role."

I'll say it. Emilio Estevez should be more famous than his brother. However, while Emilio's acting career has more or less dwindled into oblivion (this may be by choice, but still), brother Charlie Sheen is the highest paid actor in television (he'd probably be the highest paid person on TV if it wasn't for that limey curmudgeon Simon Cowell). Emilio was an original member of the Brat Pack, starred in The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo's Fire, had a resurgence in the nineties with The Mighty Ducks, and has since faded away. He wrote and directed his pet project Bobby a couple of years back, to solid reviews, and he's got a new movie he's going to write and direct, called The Public, slated for next year. However, he's decided to go in front of the screen again, and he'll do it alongside his brother Charlie. It was announced today that Emilio Estevez will guest star on an episode of Two and a Half Men later this season.

I love TV comedy. For me, there's nothing better. Good comedy is always, always hard to come by. It's forever hit and miss, the bad comedy consistently overwhelming the good comedy. The success rate for a comedy of any kind is abysmally low. More fail than succeed. This is nowhere more apparent than on television. But, even so, today's crop TV comedy is very, very good. The Best Comedy category of the Emmys is, as a result, quite hard to predict this year. The nominees are diverse, both in tone and quality – Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office, 30 Rock, Entourage and Two and a Half Men. One of these shows will take home a cute little statue this Sunday. Let's take a gander at who the favorites might be.

'The Office,' Best Comedy Nominees Submit Episodes to Emmy Voters

These Emmy voters. Who are they? Considering the process they must go through to watch the nominated episodes for Best Comedy and Best Drama, you'd think they were locked in a closet for eleven and a half months out of the year. The system seems overly complicated: to get your show up for initial consideration, you send the Emmy voters one episode of your series. When the field is then pared down to the final nominees (as they are now), each series provides six episodes (or, six hours for dramas, six half-hours for comedies) to the voters. First, however, the academy places those six episodes on three separate tapes. The tapes are then randomly distributed to the Emmy voters, all of whom receive two of the three tapes. This means, of course, that not every Emmy voter is seeing the same episodes. Perhaps this makes sense to some people (probably the same people who were responsible for nominating Two and a Half Men for Best Comedy). Anyways, the fine folks at Gold Derby recently got a hold of the specific episode lists that each Best Comedy series sent out to voters. You will find those lists below, along with some commentary.

Following months of heated battle with his ex-wife Denise Richards, Charlie Sheen is moving on with his life. The Two and a Half Men star exchanged vows with live-in partner Brooke Mueller Friday in front of about 60 close friends at a private estate in the gated Los Angeles community of Beverly Park.

Grey's Anatomy's Eric Dane and his wife Rebecca Gayheart, who reportedly first introduced the couple, were among the guests that attended the wedding. Also dolled up for the occasion were the Two and a Half Men star's two daughters with ex-wife Richards, who also has her own reality series Denise Richards: It's Complicated. Of course, Sheen's supportive dad Martin and mom Janet were also in attendance.

Zuiker's forensic drama as it trades writers with Chuck Lorre's sitcom.
