Former 'View' Host Eyes Philip Johnson for TV Movie

Philip Johnson was just a regular teenager until he was spotted by Rosie O'Donnell, comedian and former host of the award-winning talk show The View. According to The Associated Press, the 17-year-old senior student at Cass Technological High School was eating lunch at a popular downtown eatery called Small Plates when O'Donnell saw him and asked whether he would like to try out for a film, thinking that he had a face that belonged in pictures. He took a screen test the next day and won the title role.

Now, Philip Johnson will be working with the former View host in America, a film based on the E.R. Frank book of the same name about a 16-year-old boy in the foster-care system. O'Donnell, whose recent credits include Curb Your Enthusiasm, Queer as Folk, and Nip/Tuck, will be playing the therapist to the title character, and will be serving as executive producer to the project as well.

Former 'View' Host Lands Her Own Variety Show

Rosie O'Donnell is returning to TV and she's determined to make her mark at primetime with her new show called Rosie's Variety Show. The former moderator of The View will host the said program live from New York at 8pm ET/PT on November 26. The one-hour event, which will air on NBC, is considered as a precursor to a regular variety skein fronted by O'Donnell that would bow in the new year.

According to Variety, Rosie's Variety Show will feature celebrity appearances, musical appearances and comedy sketches.

'The View' Announces Daytime Emmy Nominations

This morning on The View, the hosts announced the nominees for the 35th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards. Stars from All My Children, Days of our Lives, One Life To Live, Guiding Light, and As the World Turns were on hand to present the nominations. Noticeably missing from the morning's festivities were cast members from General Hospital, who were overlooked in several of the acting categories. The View scored a nomination for Outstanding Talk Show Hosts, among others. The Daytime Emmy Awards will air June 20th on ABC at 8pm ET from Hollywood's Kodak Theater. At the ceremony, Regis Philbin will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The View returns live today, September 4 at 11am ET. Co-hosts Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and award-winning actress-comedian Whoopi Goldberg, the highly anticipated new addition to the multiple award-winning program, kickoff season 11 with special guest star Danny DeVito.

Since Rosie O’Donnell left The View in May, many fans and media outlets have aired their suggested and favored celebrities that might possibly fill in the vacant hosting spot. However, according to People magazine, producers of the ABC award winning talk show are currently contemplating on two gay men for future co-hosts.

Originally consisting of an all-female panel, The View is now reportedly considering Mario Cantone, 47, and Ross Mathews, 27, as strong contenders who could be joining Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Cantone, who played wedding planner Anthony Marantino on Sex and the City, and Mathews, known as “Ross the Intern” on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, will both appear as a guest co-host on July 12 and July 17 respectively.

Fox News is citing mysterious unnamed sources as stating that Rosie O'Donnell will not seek to renew her contract in June. Her recent feuds with everyone from Kelly Ripa to Donald Trump have done miracles for The View's ratings, but on a personal level left Rosie looking a bit like a singularity without den-mother Barbara Walter's support. Fox's reporter insinuates that ABC may make a surprise move and gracefully retire Walters, offering O'Donnell the coveted moderator spot instead. Imagine the antics that might ensue.
