'Dexter' Actor to Appear on 'The Vampire Diaries'

James Remar, who is perhaps best known as Richard, the on-off tycoon boyfriend of Kim Cattrall's character in Sex and the City, as well as serial killer Dexter Morgan's father Harry on Showtime's Dexter, has joined the cast of The Vampire Diaries to spice up the drama in the key role of Giuseppe Salvatore, Stefan and Damon's father.

Remar is expected to start filming his scenes early next month.

The Vampire Diaries closed out the first half of the season with plenty of turning points. Stefan and Elena finally had sex, Damon learned that there's someone else trying to open Katherine's tomb, and most shocking of all, Elena was in a horrific car accident.

While driving away from Stefan after learning she looks exactly like Katherine, his former lover, she encountered a shadowy figure in the middle of the road and flipped her car about 23 times. Miraculously, she remained conscious after the trauma, but the real bad news came when she saw the person she hit put his or her bones back into place and walked ominously towards Elena.

The last episode of The Vampire Diaries in 2009 definitely had plenty of turning points, as the episode's title suggested. Elena had two major turning points, Damon had one, Jeremy and Tyler had one, Matt and Caroline had one and even Alaric had one.

And if you count death, I suppose Logan had one too. The Vampire Diaries had plenty for everyone, unless you're a Bonnie fan. Then you got screwed because she wasn't in the episode at all.

We won't be seeing Damon, Stefan, Elena and the rest of the townies of Mystic Falls for several weeks so we can expect the mid-season finale of The Vampire Diaries to leave us with enough lingering mysteries to sink our teeth into while we wait for the show's return in January. A lot of weird things have already happened so far, including Bonnie being possessed by Emily, the arrival of the mysterious Alaric Saltzman and dead Logan coming back to life, but "The Turning Point" ups the ante as it introduces Stefan and Damon's new competition and gives us more insight on the town's founding families.

Kevin Williamson, the man behind The Vampire Diaries, is contemplating on adding yet another beautiful face to the fictional town of Mystic Falls. This time, he wants country pop singer Taylor Swift to come onboard as a vampire. Williamson has already approached the award-winning artist to guest star on the series though no deal has been struck as of this moment.

Just when you thought The Vampire Diaries had run out of twists and turns, last night's episode proved there's an endless supply of shocks for fans. First was the revelation that Damon was trying to bring Katherine and 26 other vampires back to life for a killing spree, then Damon bit Bonnie when she burned the necklace, and finally, the episode ended with Aunt Jenna's dead ex-boyfriend Logan coming back, in vampire form.

Those are just some of the reasons, The Vampire Diaries climbed to new heights last night with more than 4.5 million viewers, the highest since the season premiere. While other shows drop in viewers every week, The Vampire Diaries had been in a steady climb for the past four episodes, but in terms of viewers and quality.

History seems to always repeat itself in the world of vampire lore and The Vampire Diaries is no different. In tonight's episode, we learn more about the mystery behind the coveted medallion and the real reason why Damon returned to Mystic Falls.

After witnessing all the odd twists and turns in the last couple of episodes, including the recent death of vampire Lexi, we're inclined to believe more than ever that anything can really happen on The Vampire Diaries. "History Repeating" takes us back to Emily's past as Caroline, Bonnie and Elena hold a seance to invoke Emily's spirit to help them decide what to do with the medallion, which has put a wedge in Bonnie and Caroline's friendship. (A little refresher courtesy of Stefan reminds us that Emily, who owned the medallion, was a witch and was Katherine's handmaid.)

I recently stopped by AOL's popular television podcast DVR Divas. The show is an overall review of the fun and crazy shows on TV, and this week I stopped by to offer up my unique and very compulsive love of TV.

If you don't know, I watch A LOT of TV. Basically, I'm like one of those people on the A&E documentary series Horders, only with television. I watch more than 50 shows every week on a regular basis, everything from cable gems like Dexter and Sons of Anarchy to mainstream hits like Grey's Anatomy and Dancing with the Stars to guilty pleasures like One Tree Hill and The Vampire Diaries.

People's Choice Award Nominees: 'True Blood,' 'Gossip Girl' and the Usual Suspects

This morning the People's Choice Award nominations were revealed, and as always, it's populism at its best. On the TV side, the nominees often look like the top of the Nielsen ratings list, with a few notable and surprising exceptions. Shows like True Blood and Gossip Girl crept into the Favorite TV Actress categories while Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show features Lost, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural.

However, those are the very cool exceptions. For the most part, the list is full of CSI, NCIS, Grey's Anatomy, Two and a Half Men and other top-rated shows. Here are the major television nominees for this year's People's Choice Awards.

I hope this doesn't become a pattern. The Vampire Diaries introduced another new female vampire in last night's episode, but by the end, she was dead. What a waste of over 300 years.

This marked the second consecutive episode of The Vampire Diaries in which a Salvatore brother stakes another vampire. I guess they really want to be the only ones in Mystic Falls.

The Vampire Diaries didn't stop the exciting plot developments with another episode that saw Stefan celebrate his 162nd birthday with his oldest friend, another lady vampire named Lexi. We also got movement on Bonnie's witch storyline, a new possible romance and one crazy ending.

But the big story is Lexi, the fun and old vampire who shows up to party with Stefan, wear a towel and distract Elena and fight Damon. But in the end, despite being stronger, Damon's intelligence won out and he got the upper hand by launching his Diabolical Master Plan.

Although Damon has erased Jeremy's memories and planted new ones so he won't remember that Vicki turned into a vampire, tried to attack him and Elena and then was killed by Stefan with a wooden stake, Vicki's brother Matt knows that something's seriously wrong with his sister so he's not going to just accept that she left town and won't be back.

The Vampire Diaries certainly shocked viewers by killing off new vampire Vicki on last night's episode, but that's not what was supposed to happen. In a new interview with EW's Michael Ausiello, Kayla Ewell, who played Vicki, revealed the real story behind her character's death.

In the interview, she said that the original draft had Jeremy killing Vicki in order to protect his sister. They even filmed that scene, Ewell left town, and a week later the producers called her back to reshoot the ending we saw with Stefan as the killer.

The Vampire Diaries came back stronger than ever with a fantastic Halloween-themed episode, a huge shocking twist, and 4.2 million viewers, a new best since the season premiere. But the moment stuck in everyone's minds was the sudden and shocking death of Vicki. Only this time, it was for real.

In the last episode, Damon bit Vicki and turned her into a vampire, boosting the character and giving Vicki a major role in the series. It looked like she would become a leading lady, and the whole episode focused on how she adapted to her new afterlife life. But then she turned, biting Jeremy while making out with him and then attacking Elena, forcing Stefan to shove a stake through her heart, ending Vicki's fantastic run.
