Ken Ober Dies at 52

Comedian and TV personality Ken Ober died this weekend, according to Mark Measures, an agent at Abrams Artists who worked with him. Ober, who hosted four game shows over the course of his career, was widely known for his role on the MTV game show Remote Control, which he hosted for five seasons, spanning 1987 to 1990. Most recently, he served as producer for the CBS sitcom The New Adventures of Old Christine and Mind of Mencia. He was 52.

Wanda Sykes, who plays Barb on The New Adventures of Old Christine, has a new hosting gig on FOX. The late-night comedy talk show, which will air in place of Mad TV on Saturdays this fall, allows her to break color and gender lines.

"This allows me to speak on what's happening, flex my stand-up muscles without doing the traveling," the Emmy Award-winning comedian said. "Like, I would have had a blast with the Octomom -- I would have had the sheriff's department seize her uterus. Padlock it and everything."

CBS Announces Fall Premiere Dates

Today CBS announced when its fall shows will premiere, and many of the dates are easy to remember because CBS is essentially launching all of its shows in a single week. From Monday, September 21 to Sunday, September 27, CBS will premiere all but two of its shows.

Those exceptions include the newest season of Survivor, which premieres one week early to allow a two-hour premiere on Thursday. September 17, and the series premiere of Three Rivers starring Moonlight's Alex O'Loughlin which comes Sunday, October 4, one week late to allow The Amazing Race to have a two-hour premiere.

CBS' Fall Lineup: 'Medium' Changes Networks, 'Mentalist' Changes Nights

Continuing in this exciting week of Fall schedules, CBS revealed its lineup today, and while many shows remain fixed, there are some big moves.?? The Mentalist, this past season's top new show, will get the coveted post-CSI timeslot Thursdays at 10pm.

And one day after NBC officially cancelled Medium, CBS scooped it up and Patricia Arquette will now see ghosts right after Jennifer Love Hewitt does the same thing on Ghost Whisperer.

Season Finale Previews: 'The New Adventures of Old Christine' and 'Gary Unmarried'

CBS comedies The New Adventures of Old Christine and Gary Unmarried will both wrap up their respective seasons tonight.

The two have been picked up by CBS for another season. ABC was previously in talks with Warner Bros., which produces Old Christine, to pick up the comedy should CBS cancel it. CBS reported yesterday, however, that the series was renewed for a 22-episode fifth season. As for Gary Unmarried, executive producers Ed Yeager and Ric Swartzlander left the show for "creative differences," but the rookie comedy was still picked up for a second season.

GLAAD Nominates 'Supernatural,' 'True Blood' for Awards

Today the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation released its nominees for the 20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. Aside from the usual television nominees like The L Word and Ugly Betty, there was one atypical nominee: Supernatural.

The GLAAD Media Awards have a special category for an individual episode of a show that doesn't feature a regular gay character. Supernatural was nominated for “Ghostfacers,” the faux reality TV series episode that featured intern Corbett (current 90210 jock Dustin Milligan) who had a gay infatuation with Ed, resulting in the classic line, “Ed, you have to go be gay for that poor dead intern.”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus returns tonight to reprise her role as a divorced working mom who's attempting to juggle the daily stresses of motherhood and work, while maintaining a positive relationship with her ex-husband on The New Adventures of Old Christine. But before we dive into the fourth season, let's review what has happened so far.

In the 10-episode third season, Christine and Mr. Harris had a smooth going relationship until Christine's schedule became too hectic, which eventually led Mr. Harris to break up with her. Christine found a new friend in Mike, who tried to help her through her breakup and then tried entering the dating scene again but ended up dating a guy who was still in high school. On the other hand, Richard and New Christine bought a house which turned out to be Christine's dream house, while Matthew and Barb slept together but split up at the end of the season.

It's CBS, so it's boring. Sure, there are a fair share of CBS shows that I will watch religiously, but for a non-procedural drama fan, the pickings are slim. CBS is a successful network because they know its audience and cater directly towards them. At this morning's upfront presentation, CBS unveiled its fall schedule, and the surprises were minimal. The network introduced five new series, which we will discuss below, and they all seem to fit in well with the network as a whole. Bubble shows How I Met Your Mother and The New Adventures of Old Christine have survived – Moonlight has not. Below you will find the full CBS Fall schedule, plus a look at each of CBS's new series.

CBS Upfront Preview: HIMYM Safe, 'Moonlight' in Danger, Six New Shows Ordered

You'd think the CBS upfront presentation would be pretty dull whit Wednesday. With the sheer volume of successful crime procedurals (the CSI franchise, NCIS, Cold Case, Without a Trace, Ghost Whisperer, etc) it's hard to believe there's any room on the schedule for new shows. Nonetheless, Variety reports that CBS has ordered six new shows for its 2008-2009 season, including four hour-long dramas. And while How I Met Your Mother is safe (thanks, one assumes, to the Britney bump), the amount of dramas is very, very bad news for Moonlight.

Men In Trees has been canceled. The Anne Heche-led series has had its fair share of ups and downs over its short life. It has had its moments (especially when placed after Grey's Anatomy on the schedule) but Men In Trees turned into one of those shows that suffered from schizophrenic scheduling, ABC moving it all around its prime time landscape, as well as keeping it off the air for long stretches of time. As the Writers' Guild Strike enters its fifth week with nary a development that could end the ongoing impasse, networks have been left with little choice but to come up with alternative programming schedules. CBS has just released its revamped emergency anti-strike lineup, which will see the return of Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the rest of her gang on The New Adventures of Old Christine.

Also part of CBS' backup schedule is the freshman comedy called The Captain.

The actor has had a string of successful film and television ventures, and now he's part of the talented and large ensemble cast of ABC's delightfully wicked drama, Dirty Sexy Money. Underwood plays Simon Elder, a philanthropic billionaire with an ax to grind with the Darling family.

Underwood spoke to BuddyTV about his role and the fact that Dirty Sexy Money was recently picked up for a full season by ABC, despite the writers' strike that prevents the final scripts from actually being written. It will be like old times all over again for Seinfeld stars Jason Alexander and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, when Alexander makes a guest appearance on The New Adventures of Old Christine. Alexander, George Costanza on Seinfeld, will soon play a potential romantic interest for Louis-Dreyfus' Christine.

CBS announced on Wednesday that Jason Alexander will appear in an episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine, when it returns for its third season.

SAG Awards Nominees Announced

The nominees for the Screen Actors Guild awards were announced today and, as always, prove to be a nice barometer of who really deserves these end-of-the-year acting nominations. Since SAG is comprised of actors, there is no group more qualified to dole out acting awards than them. Therefore, I trusts these awards and nominations more than any other acting nominations. This is not to say I don't disagree with some of their choices. I do. My biggest qualms actually come from their film nominees, but we won't get into to that. Finally. After a month of holidays, egg nog, and more Snoopy and Ralphie Parker than one knows what to do with, we're finally back to normal. January is upon us, 2007 has begun its tyrannical, 300-plus day reign, and our favorite TV shows will no longer bludgeon us with repeats. Tomorrow, January 3rd, brings the return of a couple of our favorites, as well as two brand new shows. After that, the flood begins, and over the next month virtually every original program will air new episodes. A full list of the returning dates for most every show on television is after the jump.

CBS Makes Room for Adam Sandler

According to TVSquad, CBS is making a change to their vaunted Monday night comedy line-up, starting early next year. Adam Sandler is producing a new comedy, entitled Rules of Engagement that will take over the 9:30PM ET/PT time slot, momentarily taking the place of The New Adventures of Old Christine. Rules of Engagement will premiere on February 5th, the day after the Super Bowl. The show stars Sandler's pal David Spade, alongside Patrick Warburton of "Seinfeld" fame. It involves men and dating and marriage. Pretty typical sitcom territory. I wonder how much Sandler is actually involved. Say what you want about Mr. Sandler, but he has pretty unique comic sensibilities, and they could make for an interesting sitcom.

Scott Bakula of Quantum Leap and Enterprise will appear as "The Handsome Stranger" / "Jeff" in two episodes of CBS' The New Adventures of Old Christine. Christine agrees to go on a date with a man she meets while visiting her ex-husband's girlfriend New Christine. Later, when Ritchie's school is holding Grandparents' Day and Christine's parents can't go, Jeff attends instead at New Christine's suggestion. Christine is taken aback to learn that Jeff is actually a grandfather, and has second thoughts about continuing to see him. The first episode, entitled "The Answer is Maybe" airs September 25.

Fall 2006 Returning Shows Rank: 16 Much is made of ???The Seinfeld Curse??? and how all the ex-Seinfeld actors have yet to come back with a successful show since ???Seinfeld??? ended. People act like this is surprising. It is not. It is as predictable Jerry finding a random flaw in his girlfriend. The creative team behind ???Seinfeld??? was a perfect combination of genius that will never be seen again on TV. Both Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld are Hall-of-Famers, whose unique sensibilities mixed perfectly. The supporting cast were universally excellent, but without great material, it doesn't matter how good you are. Now, where Michael Richards and Jason Alexander have failed wildly, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is succeeding with The New Adventures of Old Christine. Fresh off an Emmy win for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, Louis-Dreyfus is showing that there's nothing wrong with the Seinfeld actors; they just needed the right role. In this case, the role of ???Old Christine??? was as far removed from Elaine Benes as possible. Divorced mother with a heart.
