In turn, proceeds from sales of The Colbert Report on iTunes during the week of June 8 will benefit the USO.

Grammy Nominations Announced - Jonas Brothers, Colbert, Conchords Receive Nods

The 2008 Grammy nominations were announced earlier today, and there are some names among the nominees who TV fans will likely be familiar. The 51st edition of the Grammys will take place on Sunday, February 9 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The program will air on CBS. Though the Grammys have recently been criticized for not embracing more modern music in its prestigious categories, this year's nominees belie a transition into more modern fare. For instance, hip hop artist Lil' Wayne received the most nominations this year with eight. For TV fans, The Jonas Brothers (Camp Rock) were nominated in the Best New Artist category, Stephen Colbert (The Colbert Report) was nominated for Best Spoken Word Album, and Flight of the Conchords were nominated for Best Comedy Album with their self-titled debut.

BuddyTV 2008 Emmys Preview: Best Variety/Comedy Series and Best Reality-Competition Series

Is The Daily Show with Jon Stewart the most important news show in America? That may sound like a cynical question, but think about it. There's so much competing noise these days in the cable news world that The Daily Show probably is, at least on cable, as formidable in the news world as Bill O'Reilly or Keith Olberman. The Daily Show has won the Emmy for Best Variety, Music or Comedy Series for five straight years. There's no reason it won't happen again, but the competition isn't anything to sneeze at either. The Emmys are only two days away, folks. Below we'll take a look at the Best Variety, Music or Comedy Series category, as well as the Best Reality-Competition Series category.

TV Tonight: Wednesday, April 16

Every day, we here at BuddyTV will let you know all the new shows airing that night to help you plan your TV-viewing schedule. In addition, we’ll highlight two episodes we think are worth checking out to help diversify your love of TV.

Wednesdays are slim pickings for quality TV, unless you fall for FOX’s promos that say Til Death and Back to You are two of TV’s funniest comedies (a claim that makes me want to sue the network for false advertising). Rivera, who at times has appeared on The O'Reilly Factor hosted political pundit Bill O'Reilly, is out to promote his latest literary project, His Panic: Why Americans Fear Hispanics in the U.S.

The interview should be interesting not only because Rivera was sometimes the subject of mockery in The Colbert Report's parent series, The Daily Show, but also because Rivera has made some insulting remarks about comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert in an equally public setting.

'The Colbert Report' Host's Book Still Going Strong on NY Times Best-Seller List

It's been almost five months since “I Am America (And So Can You!),” a book written by The Colbert Report host Stephen Colbert and writers from the show, was released, but the satirical piece is still going strong in the New York Times Best-Seller List.

In the recent list released by the New York Times, the book takes the number 6 spot in the top ten for hardcover nonfiction, ahead of such other popular releases as "An Inconvenient Book" by Glenn Beck and Kevin Balfe, "Real Change" by Newt Gingrich with Vince Haley and Rick Tyler, "God's Problem" by Bart D. Hopefully viewers will stick around for new episodes of 30 Rock and The Office as opposed to NBC's current strategy of four or five hours of Deal or No Deal per week. But let's try to focus on the positives, and yes, there were some good things that came out of the strike, and we're not talking about Internet residuals.

We're not about to claim the strike was a great thing, or even a good thing. We at BuddyTV miss the adventures of Ned the Piemaker and Lonely Tourist Charlotte Charles. We wonder what made Tony Almeida so evil. And we're still curious about when Marshall's final two slaps will occur. Yet we can look beyond that to find the silver lining on the giant cloud that was the writers' strike.

Stephen Colbert for Vice President?

Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee has been on The Colbert Report a few times over the past year, and during his appearance on Wednesday's show he jokingly asked Stephen Colbert to be his running mate in the upcoming election. Colbert, who abandoned his own 2008 presidential bid back in November, responded with an enthusiastic, "Yes, a thousand times yes." Is it time for the citizens of America to get ready for the Huckabee/Colbert campaign? And will noted Huckabee Supporter/King of the Internet Chuck Norris be the Secretary of Defense?

The Return of 'The Daily Show' and 'The Colbert Report'

It has been a long nine weeks! The Daily Show and The Colbert Report last ran new episodes on November 1 and the fans have been slowly dying ever since. Due to the excessive reruns, both shows have lost more than 50% of their audiences but tonight, those numbers will change. It will be interesting to see how both Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert will handle returning to tv. We still expect political, smart humor and it's going to be a challenge considering neither one of them can write a single word. They'll have to improv the whole thing, which may work for Conan or Dave but will it work well for the Comedy Central duo? Here's how each show played out as The Daily Show and The Colbert Report return with new episodes.

Top 7 of '07: Best Shows - The Colbert Report/The Daily Show

Check out all our lists for BuddyTV's Top 7 of '07 to relive the best and the worst of the year in television.

It's been said many times that The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are where many college students go to get their news. Well, I'm not in college anymore but I still get my news from them. Jon Stewart has been giving me my news since 1998 and I've never looked back. You can't pay me to watch MSNBC or FOX News.

In October of this year, Stephen Colbert pulled one of the greatest publicity stunts ever: he announced that he would be running for president. He got himself a sponsor (Doritos) and launched a website, colbert08.org. On Facebook, he had over one million supporters for his presidency. It all came to end when the state of South Carolina, Colbert's home state, rejected his application by a vote of 13-3 and refunded his $2500 filing fee.

'The Daily Show' and 'The Colbert Report' to Return Jan. 7

Comedy Central just got their holiday wish granted. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report with Stephen Colbert have both agreed to return to the cable network with new episodes, beginning on January 7. Last month, Doritos agreed to sponsor Colbert's mock presidential campaign, resulting in a creative and highly-effective product integration on The Colbert Report. In an impressive twist, the integrations, which included a video footage of Colbert holding up bags of Doritos to the camera and chomping down some nacho cheese chips, verbal references and jokes about the brand, and an opening graphic advertising of Doritos' sponsorship at the beginning of bits featuring Colbert's campaign, did not cost the company anything.

The Best of 'The Colbert Report' Comes Out on DVD Tomorrow, Nov. 6

It's a depressing day for fans of The Colbert Report and The Daily Show. With the writers' strike underway, both shows will immediately be sent into re-runs and will not return until the strike is resolved. This means it could be months before the next new episode of The Daily Show or The Colbert Report. Fortunately, fans may find some respite with Tuesday's release of The Best of The Colbert Report DVD. The DVD contains nearly three hours of footage from The Colbert Report's first couple of years on air.

This DVD release comes on the heels of Stephen Colbert's failed Presidential campaign and the release of Colbert's first book “I Am America (and So Can You!).” The all-out blitz of Colbert hype comes at a good time, given the writers' strike that started today. With Colbert possibly off the air indefinitely, the DVD should be able to tide fans over over for the time being.

Stephen Colbert Denied Presidential Candidacy in South Carolina

It's a sad day for democracy.

Today, Stephen Colbert was denied entry onto the Democratic Presidential Primary ballot in South Carolina. A 23-member executive council convened in South Carolina today to decide which applicants were worthy of appearing on the Democratic Primary ballot and one Mr. Stephen Colbert did not make the cut. One of the two requirements to appear on the ballot was national credibility, and Colbert, who applied in only one state, was deemed unworthy of appearing on South Carolina's ballot.

Stephen Colbert Officially Files for Democratic Primary in SC

Stephen Colbert, comedian and host of The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, has officially filed for inclusion in South Carolina's Democratic Presidential Primary. Papers were due today and every indication out of Colbert's camp was that his paperwork was sent in either late Wednesday or early Thursday. Colbert's original plan was to get on the ballot for both the Democratic and Republican primaries, but the GOP application was too expensive - $35,000. The South Carolina Democratic Party, however, only requires $2,500 or 3,000 signatures. It's not assured that Colbert will find his name on the ballot, though. South Carolina's 26-member executive council will convene today to discuss which of the candidates will make the ballot.

The Colbert Report: Stephen Colbert Launches Presidential Campaign in South Carolina

Stephen Colbert, who plays “Stephen Colbert” Colbert is running for president, but only in his home state of South Carolina. He is entering as both a Republican and Democrat, so he can lose twice. Bob Coble, the Mayor of Colombia, gave Colbert a key to the city, called him South Carolina's "favorite son" and declared October 28 “Stephen Colbert Day”. In his speech, Colbert took aim at neighboring state Georgia.

The Colbert Report: Poll Shows Stephen Colbert has 13% of Presidential Vote

In a Rasmussen Report telephone survey, results showed that in a race versus Republican Rudy Giuliani and Democrat Hilary Clinton, comedian Stephen Colbert would receive 13% of all votes, this just a week after Colbert's maybe/sort of/probably fake announcement of his candidacy for President. Those numbers are staggering and, from all I can tell, look to be legitimate results of a legitimate survey. Host of Comedy Central's The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert announced last week on The Daily Show are two entirely different people. In a very telling 60 Minutes segment from last year, people were treated to the “real” Colbert, a gentle-hearted and humble family man who doesn't let his young children watch his own show. The fake Stephen, whose persona dominates The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, is a brash, stubborn, patriot who questions the logic of everything and everybody, usually to hilarious effect. Now, in his latest comic version of performance art, Stephen Colbert has put his name in the hat for President of the United States in 2008.
