draw, and this year was no exception. On the Drama side, Ellen Burstyn

role on Rescue Me.

Just a case in point. Consider comparing an episode from the show's first few seasons to something from the latest. I recently watched “Clubhouses” and can still largely remember “About Last Night..” so let's compare the two.

South Park: Five Best Cartman Moments

South Park's Eric Cartman is one of my favorite television characters, animated or otherwise. Don't get me wrong. I am not intolerant, foul-mouthed, bigoted, obese, selfish, and fond of hitting little stuff, such as gnomes, aliens, and little critters, with a stick. Apparently, though, I'm not the only one who likes the little fat kid. He was 10th on TV Guide's 2002 list of the “Top 50 Greatest Cartoon Characters” and the only South Park character to make it to the list (if you're curious, Bugs Bunny topped the list, followed by Homer Simpson, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Beavis and Butthead, and the Grinch).

True enough, a lot of South Park fans believe that for an episode to be good, it has to have good Cartman moments, and, in turn, a good Cartman moment more often than not means a good episode. For those who are true blue South Park fans, when we think of Eric Cartman, we usually see his plump little round body and hear his southern accent saying either, “I hate you guys,” or “That's so lame,” You're breaking my balls man,” or simply a very curt and high-pitched, “Hey!”

I'm sure most of you have your very own favorite Cartman moments. I've listed my top 5. Feel free to add your bets in the comments below!

Topic Ideas for 'South Park'

As South Park reaches its 12th season, some fans are sacrilegiously bringing up the idea that maybe, just maybe, the Comedy Central hit is running out of ideas. Some mention that the animated series may have jumped the shark, as there have been not-so-rosy comments on the quality of its latest season so far.

This is unthinkable, as South Park, which can be counted on to parody and/or tackle whatever it is the public is talking about, has a steady stream of material. This season alone, it has explored the following issues in ways only South Park could: China's rise as a superpower, the 2008 elections, High School Musical, and the crazy, crazy Twilight craze.

South Park: Lessons in Cultural and Political Theory

When South Park first became famous, it was known largely as that cartoon with crappy animation and kids who swear like it was nobody's business. True enough, the first few seasons of the hit Comedy Central show did feature a lot of slapstick antics that were bound to shock the timid. Going forward, however, as South Park reached its 10th season and beyond, things got a lot more intelligent in the little mountain town in Colorado.

The show's creators started relying less and less on visual comedy and began using convoluted plots, outrageous premises, and out-of-this world characters to elicit laughter from its fans. Of course, the usual swearing and cussing and irreverence are still there, but somehow, South Park has evolved from the disgusting cartoon to the disgusting cartoon with substance and a steadfast political stance.

'South Park' Co-creator Talks about Tricky Election Episode

The last episode of South Park tackled the recent elections in a way that only South Park could. If we were to believe “About Last Night…,” Obama, McCain, Palin, and the gang (plus Ike) belong to some Ocean's 11 type of gang that orchestrated a 10-year plan that culminated in the 2008 presidential elections. All the election hullabaloo was just to do a heist and steal a $210-million diamond at the Smithsonian Institute. While South Park and virtually the rest of the nation were distracted after the announcement of the results (the Obama supporters were partying, the McCain supporters were fighting for room in an “ark” or else just committing suicide), the gang went through their plan and pushed through with the burglary. When all was done, most flew out of the country, while Obama and Michelle at the last minute opted to stay and “give this president thing” a try.

According to South Park co-creator Trey Parker, “About Last Night…” was a tricky episode. For one, it was premised on an Obama win, which, on all accounts had been pretty reliable but there was still no way of making sure. The elections happened Tuesday, and the episode aired Wednesday night. He said they considered doing an alternate episode, one where the GOP candidate won, but went against it because it was “too daunting” a task. Also, Parker had no doubt Obama would win, yet he wasn't partying when Obama did. They were able to replicate the stage, plus Obama's now famous acceptance speech and finished up the morning of Wednesday.

South Park: Preview of "About Last Night..."

On the last episode of South Park, we got the “startling” conclusion to the two-part Pandemic saga. The South Park boys, plus Craig, were flown to the Andes to supposedly infiltrate the origin of the Peruvian flute bands that had plagued their cities. Yet since the head of Homeland security was too busy being an alien, the pilots didn't know what to do next after they were dropped off. Back in Colorado, everything was being ravaged by guinea pigs, guinea bats, guinea bears, etc. In the end, it was Craig who turned out to save the day.

Tonight on South Park, the long-running Comedy Central animated series takes part in the election fever a day after the nationwide vote in an episode called “About Last Night…” in reference to yesterday's polls.

The Pandemic Continues on 'South Park'

That was a cliffhanger if there ever was one on the last episode of South Park. It started with an innocent enough venture by the boys to get a share of the Peruvian flute band pie that had taken over their mall (plus the other major cities in the world, as will be revealed later). They sought the help of Craig for capital, dressed up, and bought instruments, and true enough, they were making sale after sale just because they looked “cultural.” As absurd as it was, Homeland Security found the disturbance too annoying so they racked all the Peruvian flute bands on some Florida jail, including the South Park boys, and planned on attacking the country itself – a parody perhaps of US foreign policy.

Little did they know that hauling all the bands would inexplicably lead to an even bigger catastrophe – a bunch of guinea pigs wreaking havoc on their cities. Just what exactly links the Peruvian flute bands and the rodents? That’s what part two of this two-part South Park episode should shed light on. It was also hinted that Craig will have a big role on the entire mystery.

South Park: Preview of "Pandemic"

On the last episode of South Park, we got a little dose of girl power when Wendy, after a host of hullabaloos (Cartman taking a crap at his teacher's desk to intentionally get detention, having his mom come over Wendy's house to make her promise not to fight him, etc) finally decided to fight the “fat, little lump.” The episode called “Breast Cancer Show Ever” brought the issue to the fore the only way South Park could: Cartman's insensitivity toward the “tit*ies cancer” awareness campaign.

On tonight's episode of South Park called “Pandemic,” the boys decide to be entrepreneurs and take advantage of the misfortune of others. They are short of capital, however, so Cartman and the rest had to seek the help of Craig, who had $100 to spare thanks to his grandmother's birthday gift to him. Craig is a little apprehensive of the offer, though, because of Cartman's less-than-peachy traits and their rather confused relationship. Their little get-rich-quick scheme (“How would you like to turn that $100 to $1000?) is the central theme to this episode.

BuddyTV's Cult of Cartman Caption Contest

Some call me a Wunderkind.

Eric Cartman is truly among the wisest who have walked the Earth. Today, South Park: The Cult of Cartman is finally available on DVD, enabling us to further study his life lessons. This 2-disc DVD features 12 hilarious episodes with the misbehaving and offensive Cartman at his worst. It also includes a new-to-DVD episode from Season 12, new footage, introductions to each episode by Eric Cartman.

The latest South Park DVD set, The Cult of Cartman, is nothing more than an anthology of 12 episodes that focus on Eric Cartman at his best (which is also his worst). April 20 is as close as we come to having a Nation Weed Smoking Day in this country, so what better way to celebrate here at BuddyTV than to reflect on our favorite pot-smoking television characters. Well, I imagine you could think of one or two better ways.

For this list, we've put together five of our favorite television characters with reefer madness. Sure, there are many characters who've experimented, such as Seth Cohen from The O.C. or Ross on Friends, but for this list, we wanted honest-to-God, red-blooded, bong lovers. And indeed, we've found characters who all have a need...a need for weed.

Comedy Central Launches the All-New 'South Park' Website

Sick and tired of having to download their own show illegally all the time, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have come up with a legal alternative in the form of an all new Southparkstudios.com. The show runners have teamed up with Comedy Central to bring forth a website that features free, streaming, full-length episodes and clips from the entire 12 seasons of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning animated series.

Early last week, Comedy Central announced that South Park's 12th season will begin on Wednesday, March 12, at 10/9c. It will be succeeded by the premiere of Lewis Black's Root of All Evil, a show that features Black presiding over comedians like Greg Giraldo, Paul F. Tompkins and Patton Oswalt as they debate over who is more evil. The show's “cases” include Oprah vs. The Catholic Church and Paris Hilton vs. Dick Cheney.

BuddyTV's Five Favorite TV Lesbians

On television, there appears to be a gender bias when it comes to the portrayal of homosexuality. While gay men are catty best friends and deeply dramatic teens, lesbians are much rarer, unless you only count Showtime's The L Word. Why this is we're not quite sure, all we know is this: we love lesbians.

Going back through the years, we put together a list of our five favorite TV lesbians. These aren't the most socially important or famous like Ellen DeGeneres. Instead, we thought long and hard about the TV lesbians we loved to watch, the ones we fell in love with, and the ones who made us laugh out loud.

Top 7 of '07: Best Shows - South Park

Check out all our lists for BuddyTV's Top 7 of '07 to relive the best and the worst of the year in television.

Don Williams ranked South Park 3rd. He says...

It's unfathomable to me that, after being on the air for 11 seasons, South Park is still able to make me cry from laughter almost every week. This year, Trey Parker and Matt Stone ruthlessly skewered the Easter holiday, The Da Vinci Code, Tourette's syndrome, Guitar Hero, 300, Hillary Clinton, and Bono, amongst other things. The series is still as cutting edge, topical, and hilarious as it was back in 1997.

'South Park' Season 11 Finale Airs Tonight

Tonight, the 11th season of Comedy Central's South Park comes to an end with a yet another hilarious episode entitled, “The List.”

According to the network, the finale has the girls in the fourth grade class drawing up a secret list that rates each of the boy's physical appearance from cutest to ugliest. The boys steal the list from the girls but they soon find out that they're not prepared to deal with the results.
