'Six Degrees' Star Joins 'Eli Stone'

Bridget Moynahan, who portrayed Whitney Crane on Six Degrees, has signed on to appear on ABC's Eli Stone. According to TV Guide, the 37-year-old actress will be playing a love interest for the visionary title character, though her duration run on the sophomore drama is unclear yet at this point.

This marks the latest casting news for Eli Stone. As mentioned before, the upcoming season of Eli Stone will also feature Dawson's Creek alum Katie Holmes as a lawyer, Academy Award-nominated actress Sigourney W.aver as a therapist, and multiple Grammy Award-winner Seal, who will appear as himself in an episode, which will tentatively air in late October or early November.

Six Degrees Canceled?

Entertainment Weekly has reported that Six Degrees, the new relationship drama from Lost mastermind J.J. Abrams, is being put on hiatus and will be pulled from the schedule for the remainder of November and all of December. There was a fair amount of hype for Six Degrees coming into the season, as a result of Abrams involvement and it's placement by ABC in the time slot directly following Grey's Anatomy. However, Six Degrees has been losing over half of its lead-in audience over the course of the season. What will take its place in the coveted post-Grey's time slot? Variety is reporting that it will be Men in Trees, the surprise hit starring Anne Heche that recently received a full-season order from ABC.

Ugly Betty premiered and proved fairly stiff competition for Survivor, scoring a 4.9 ratings share to Survivor's 5.8. Grey's Anatomy beat CSI again, which makes feel warm and fuzzy inside. My Name is Earl is still trending downward and, for the second week in a row, The Office has improved on Earl's ratings in the second half of the nine o'clock hour. In New York and Los Angeles, a mysterious ad campaign on subway cars and train stations appears, with such messages as "The woman in red is flirting with you," and "The person next to you could be your next boss." A web address is the only information given. The New York Times reported today that the site, u-r-connected.com, did not contain information identifying the ABC network or the fact that it was advertising a TV show, but just the concept of "six degrees of separation," and photos & first names of six people. ABC hoped people would figure out on their own that it was a campaign for their new series Six Degrees, or at least for a TV show, "sooner rather than later," said Michael Benson, senior vice president for marketing at ABC. The people clearly needed a little more help. The site now contains trailers for the show and information about when it airs. Six Degrees premieres this Thursday, September 21 on ABC.

Behind-the-Scenes Turmoil Plagues Six Degrees

The new ABC drama Six Degrees has already gone through a transformation in production staff, before the first episode has even aired. Carol Flint, veteran of ER and The West Wing, has left the show, citing the long commute between Los Angeles and New York as one reason. In addition to Flint's departure, co-executive producer and director Jace Alexander has also left the show in recent weeks. Ken Biller has joined the new series as executive producer and showrunner. The question is whether the addition of Biller, whose credits include Smallville, "Dark Angel", and "Star Trek: Voyager", will be enough to get Six Degrees off the ground. In addition to the new staffing changes, this summer ABC also brought in Grey's Anatomy executive producer Peter Horton as a consultant on the show, expressing "concern" over some of the early scripts. Six Degrees premieres September 21 on ABC.

Fall 2006 New Shows Rank: #6 Gist of the Show: From Lost creator J.J. Abrams, Six Degrees follows six distinctly different New Yorkers who go about their daily lives not knowing the impact they have on one another. Cast Member Looking To Reclaim Former Glory: Erika Christensen, who has done little of note since breaking onto the scene in Steven Soderbergh's ???Traffic???. Similar in Theme to: "Magnolia", but probably without group sing-a-longs or a plague of frogs. Time Slot Competition: ER, Shark. Likelihood of Second Season: 80% Final Word: J.J. Abrams can seemingly do no wrong at the moment, so look for Six Degrees to get all the time and support it needs to hit it's stride. Six Degrees has a great lead-in with Grey's Anatomy, and the cast is talented and attractive.
