FOX Midseason Schedule Announced: 'Idol' and '24' Return, 'Dollhouse' Bids Goodbye, 'Glee' Takes Four-Month Recess

Fox has released its midseason schedule, announcing return dates for American Idol and 24, and the series finale of Dollhouse, as well as return dates for Fringe and Glee.

American Idol returns for its ninth season with a two-night premiere on Tuesday, January 12, from 8pm-10pm. A second show airs the following day, January 13, from 8pm-9pm. Idol will then air every Tuesday, also from 8pm.

For some time now, FOX has been reportedly toying the idea of staging an episode that would find Bones' Booth and Brennan working on a case with Lie to Me's Doc Lightman, though a couple of months ago, an insider cautioned that "it's in the very early stages and may not even happen."

FOX Fall Schedule: 'Dollhouse' Renewed, 'So You Think You Can Dance' Season 6

Today FOX officially announced its schedule for the 2009-2010 TV season, and some of the changes are huge.?? Aside from the great news that Dollhouse will be coming back for a second season, the other big story is that So You Think You Can Dance, which premieres its fifth season this Thursday, will air in the Fall as well for an immediate sixth season.

The So You Think You Can Dance move is unusual, but helps to balance out the schedule since FOX has American Idol in the Spring.?? It also gives FOX the chance to do direct competition with Dancing with the Stars, a show that in recent seasons has taken several professional from former SYTYCD contestants.

Lie to Me: Preview of Finale "Sacrifice"

The 13th and finale episode of Fox's rookie series Lie to Me will air tonight, and the case will take the group to the nation's capital. On "Sacrifice," the FBI asks the Lightman Group to investigate a terrorist bombing outside Washington, D.C.

The freshman detective drama, meanwhile, reeled in its biggest numbers in week after it registered a 2.7 rating in the all-important 18-49 demo - 8.7 million viewers all in all - and a 17 percent jump in the adult demographic. Its impressive 12.37 million pilot numbers, however, continued to dwindle en route to the 8.7 mil in the last episode.

How 'Lie to Me' Differs From 'The Mentalist'

At first glimpse, FOX's Lie to Me appears to have a similar premise to CBS' The Mentalist. That's because both series revolves around a main character that makes use of his powers of observation to uncover the truth and solve crimes. But there's a big difference between the two and executive producer Brian Grazer reveals the answer.

"I'm not really interested in The Mentalist's process," Grazer told TV Guide. "I mean it might be good — I mean I think it is good, it's doing really well — [but] I'm actually interested in whether people are telling the truth."

After making his mark in the big screen as Emil Blonsky in the movie The Incredible Hulk, Tim Roth returns to the small screen to star in a new gripping drama called Lie to Me. The show, which is similar to Lifetime's Angela's Eyes, is based on the real-life scientific discoveries of Dr. Paul Ekman, a notable psychologist and expert on body language and facial expressions.
