'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' Actors are 'Boldly Going Nowhere'

In case you haven't heard, Rob McElhenney (Mac), Glenn Howerton (Dennis R. Reynolds), and Charlie Day (Charlie Kelly), the boys of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, are currently working on a new show called Boldly Going Nowhere which will air on FOX. However, they won't be starring in the comedy since they'll be serving as executive producers instead.

Boldly Going Nowhere will reportedly be a mix of comedy and sci-fi and will revolve around the day-to-day life of the captain of an intergalactic spaceship. Adam Stein, a writer's assistant on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, came up with the original idea and will share a created-by credit, though McElhenney, Howerton, and Day will do much of the writing. The pilot was shot in October and, so far, FOX has ordered five additional episodes.

With the fourth season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia wrapping up, one can hear the chorus of fans screaming their lungs out for more. Tonight marks the finale of another humorously antagonistic run of the series, as the gang is back with “The Nightman Cometh.”

Tonight, Charlie (Charlie Day) once again manifests his skills as he rounds up everyone for a little artful scheme. He's written a musical based on his song, “Nightman” and he wants to organize a rock and roll opera for a night. There's sure to be a lot of snickers seeing the troupe in costumes and belting out tunes. But then again, this is nothing new on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

On tonight’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the gang decides to fool history in exchange for a little recognition. After being saved from a heart attack last week, Dee and the rest of the cast go their own way to save the unsuccessful Paddy’s Pub.

“The Gang Cracks the Liberty Bell” has the gang bluffing to the Philadelphia Historical society. Wanting to get Paddy’s Pub labeled as a historical landmark, they claim that the place was responsible for cracking the famous Liberty Bell. It’s only a matter of time until everyone finds out if it’s true.

Tonight, four friends who run a bar in the City of Brotherly Love will have to overcome their relentless self-involvement to make their friendship and business work yet again. But before I tell what's in store for the next two episodes, here's a quick review of what has happened so far on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

In last week's fourth season opener, Dee and Charlie developed a cannibalistic craving after mistakenly eating some of Frank's human meat, while Mac and Dennis took hunting for sport to the next level as they went after Rickety Cricket (David Hornsby). Moreover, Dennis and Charlie took advantage of rising gas prices as they invested in barrels of gasoline that they sold door to door, while Dee and Frank took some drastic measures to expose Bruce Mathis (Stephen Collins) as a terrorist leader when they discovered that he intends to give their money to a Muslim community center.

In line with this, FX has also picked up 39 more episodes of the sitcom in addition to the 13 currently in production. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia has the most unlikable cast of characters television has ever seen. It's like Seinfeld, only if the characters were a lot dumber and a lot meaner. When It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia premiered a few years back, I thought little of it, didn't give it much of a chance. On a recommendation from a friend last year, I picked up season one on DVD. How was I not aware of this cable gem? Furthermore, why aren't more people talking about it? It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is probably the funniest show on television, a mean-spirited laugh riot on which nothing is sacred.

FX has found a new show that will brace nicely with the twisted comedy of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the series about a group of friends who run an unsuccessful Irish bar called Paddy's Pub in South Philadelphia. The network announced Tuesday at the Television Critics Association press tour that it has ordered 13 episodes of Testees, which is the working title of the new sitcom from Kenny Hotz, writer for South Park, as well as the creator and star of Kenny vs. Spenny.

Testees revolves around two roommates, Peter (Steve Markle) and Ron (Jeff Kassel), who earn a living by working as test subjects for a company called TESTICO. Throughout the series, the duo will be exposed to a new product and then waiting for the side effects, which are mostly negative, to kick in while trying to lead a normal life. The show is scheduled to debut on October 9 at 10:30pm, following It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia to form a one-hour comedy block on Thursday nights.

Danny DeVito Praises Younger 'Sunny' Co-Stars

Being the only regular cast member above 50 in FX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia doesn't bother veteran actor Danny DeVito. In fact, the 62-year-old star only has good things to say about his much younger male co-stars, who incidentally co-write the show.

"These guys are so talented," DeVito, who plays Frank Reynolds on the series, said of Rob McElhenney (Mac), Glenn Howerton (Dennis) and Charlie Day (Charlie). "They built the box. This is a whole other kind of comedy, and for me, it's like really refreshing and great. And I always say that this year, we started to take the lid off the box. So we're... getting up to speed," he said.

The Philly reports that Rob McElhenney, creator and star of FX's It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, will be appearing in an upcoming episode of LOST! McElhenney, who is a big fan of LOST, was greeted at his shows production by a couple of fans who also turned out to be writers of LOST. They informed McElhenney that LOST big wig Damon Lindelof was a fan of Philadelphia and invited the writer/actor to the LOST offices in Disney. After being given a tour of the facility by Lindelof himself, McElhenney moved in for the kill - telling Lindelof he would love to appear in an episode. The result? "I play an Other, first episode back from the hiatus." he said. "I will say I get beaten up pretty bad, by one of the... handsomer members of the cast." The actor doesn't see his character returning anytime soon...
