When done right, karaoke can be an art unto itself, combining great singing with glorious stage presence. When done wrong, as it is most of the time, it's painful and annoying. While Simon Cowell frequently uses "karaoke singer" as an insult, sometimes the best musical moments come from a person on stage with a microphone and words on a screen.

Karaoke can play a crucial role on television shows. Sometimes it's there for a simple joke, sometimes it provides a chance to show off, and at its best, it's used as a key moment in a character's emotional development.

All eyes are on Meredith and Derek as they continue to prepare for their looming wedding. But that’s not all that’s worth looking into, especially as Grey’s Anatomy concludes its fifth season with a two-hour finale slated to air on May 14. According to Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello, series creator Shonda Rhimes has tapped Debra Mooney and Liza Weil for the highly anticipated season ender.

Mooney, known for her role on Everwood, most recently appeared on Eleventh Hour, ER, Cold Case, and Pushing Daisies. On the other hand, Weil is credited for her role as Paris Geller on Gilmore Girls, as well as her roles on The West Wing, The Adventures of Pete & Pete, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and ER. Weil also has ties to Rhimes' other show, Private Practice given that her real-life husband is cast member Paul Adelstein.

'Gilmore Girls' Star To Lead ABC Comedy

Lauren Graham is on her way back to primetime TV. The Gilmore Girls actress has signed a deal with ABC to star in and produce a new half-hour comedy from Will & Grace writer Alex Herschlag. According to Variety, Graham will be playing a a self-help guru who teaches women how to live a stress-free life, but struggles to follow her own advice when her boyfriend dumps her.

ABC has already given a production commitment to the new comedy with Mitch Hurwitz (Arrested Development), Kim Tannenbaum and Eric Tannenbaum (Two and a Half Men) as producers. Graham will serve as producer on the project as well.

Gilmore Girls ended its seven-season run in the spring of 2007. The show's quality dipped precipitously in the sixth season, mostly due to the character assassination that Luke Danes (Scott Patterson) suffered with regard to his long-lost daughter April. Lorelai (Lauren Graham) also had the misfortune of losing her signature spunk, piling on more things for us viewers to complain about.

However, the seventh season of Gilmore Girls was able to turn it around. Whether it was because of the change in leadership, when David Rosenthal took over the reigns after creator Amy Sherman-Palladino's departure, is not clear, but the characters became closer to what we had always known them to be. Perhaps not quite up to the level of the first three seasons, but it was enough to remind us of its previous greatness.

During its seven-year run, Gilmore Girls consistently delivered as one of the smartest-written shows on television. It was nearly as perfect as the idyllic New England hamlet of Stars Hollow in which it was set. A story about how a 16-year-old gets pregnant and flees her life of privilege to raise her daughter on her own isn't going to make Gilmore Girls a favorite of the Parents Television Council. But Gilmore Girls was heartwarming, wholesome family entertainment because it was a story about complicated mother-daughter relationships and it showed that the family you build with your community can be even more supportive than the family you are born with.

Lauren Graham, best known for her starring role on Gilmore Girls, has just signed a contract with NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios for a one-year exclusive talent and development deal.

The deal, which was announced by NBC Co-Chairman Ben Silverman and Casting Executive Vice President Marc Hirschfeld on September 18, is reportedly worth seven figures and calls for the network and its sibling studio to create a series project for the 40-year-old actress.

With the release of Saw IV just around the corner, actor Scott Patterson recently spoke about the sequel which is due to hit theaters on October 26. In the fourth installment of the horror film, the Gilmore Girls alum plays an FBI agent tasked with deciphering the pieces of Jigsaw's (Tobin Bell) latest puzzle.

In the aftermath of Jigsaw and his apprentice, Amanda's (Shawnee Smith) death, Patterson's character, Agent Strahm and his fellow veteran profiler, Agent Perez (Athena Karkanis) are brought in to assist in sifting through the remains to make sense of everything.

'Gilmore Girls' Actor Lands Role in Wendy Wasserstein's 'Third'

Actor Matt Czuchry, who played Logan Huntzberger on Gilmore Girls, will be appearing on stage for the West Coast debut of Third, the last play written by the late Wendy Wasserstein.

Third, which first opened at Lincoln Center Theater in 2005, tells the story of a New England University professor who accuses one of her students of plagiarism. The play will be directed by Maria Mileaf and will open on September 19 at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. It will run until October 21.

Longtime stage actress Emily Kuroda, known for her role on the defunct drama series, Gilmore Girls, is currently starring in Lodestone Theatre Ensemble's production of Euripides' classic play, The Trojan Women. The play, translated by Kenneth Cavander, began its run early this month and will continue on until August 26 at the GTC Burbank inside George Izay Park.

Along with Emily Kuroda, actor Kelvin Han Yee (Lucky You, Dirt, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Bold and the Beautiful) also leads the Asian Pacific American cast.

Former 'Gilmore Girls' Actress Currently Filming 'Flash of Genius'

The end of the Gilmore Girls does not necessarily spell the end of Lauren Graham's career. She recently starred in the comedy, Evan Almighty, with Steve Carell (The Office) and is now busy working on another big screen project, Flash of Genius.

The drama, which marks the directorial debut of producer Marc Abraham, is about the life of Robert Kearns (Greg Kinnear), the inventor of the windshield wiper. Kearns spent most of his life fighting with Detroit automakers, whom he charged with stealing his invention. His fixation with legal retribution suffocated his relationship with wife Phyllis (Lauren Graham) and put a strain on their children. He eventually got a multi-million dollar settlement. Two years ago, he passed away.

'Gilmore Girls' Series DVD to Be Released in November

Fans of the recently canceled CW series, Gilmore Girls, will have the chance to go through all seven seasons again when the complete series DVD comes out in November.

The massive DVD set contains 42 discs, throughout which all 153 episodes have been spread. It also includes several hours' worth of bonus features, an episode guide with pictures and an all-new and complete “Gilmoreisms” booklet.

'Gilmore Girls' Creator Didn't Watch Series Finale

Writer and producer Amy Sherman-Palladino attended the TCA summer press tour in order to answer questions about her latest project, The Return of Jezebel James. However, as the session wore on, the discussion took a natural turn towards Sherman-Palladino's recently canceled series, Gilmore Girls.

The series finale aired in May 15, but Sherman-Palladino said that she did not tune in that night. At first, she joked that she had been intoxicated when the final episode aired, but then was quick to state the true reason why she declined from watching the series finale.

While the CW lineup announced today at the Television Critics Association executive session skewed heavily toward reality programming, there are still a few scripted programs planned for the network's Fall schedule. One such program is Aliens in America. No, it's no Sci Fi program, rather a half-hour sitcom about a 16-year-old Pakistani exchange student being hosted by an American family in Wisconsin.

In case you haven’t heard, Lauren Graham, one of the lead actresses of the recently cancelled series Gilmore Girls, stars in the movie Evan Almighty, which is scheduled to hit the theaters on June 22, 2007.

In an interview with Glamour magazine for their July issue, the Gilmore Girls actress has expressed her excitement in focusing her career in the big screen. “I love TV and I hope to do another show at some point, but I feel ready to take a break,” Graham has said. “Hopefully in 20 years I’ll still be working, like Diane Keaton. Loose Ends Make Way for a Gilmore Girls Movie?

Gilmore Girls has already aired its final episode on May 15, 2007, after 153 episodes and seven seasons. However, just because the show has ended on television doesn’t mean it’s over for the mother and daughter tandem. Series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is actually pondering about making the comedy-drama into a two-hour movie.

According to TV Guide, which claims to have run into Sherman-Palladino, there’s a possibility of coming up with a Gilmore Girls movie, which would attempt to give some answers to all the loose ends left after the series ended. This will also give closure on the lives of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore.

Previously on Gilmore Girls: Rory didn’t get her internship, Lorelai sang a song and then accidentally hurt Luke’s feelings, Rory graduated from Yale and then turned down Logan’s proposal.

Tonight, on the series finale of Gilmore Girls:

Lorelai and Rory head to the Dragonfly, because Lorelai claims Christiane Amanpour is guest-starring as herself. I mean, staying at the inn. Michel confirms this, saying he didn’t tell Lorelai because of her past history embarrassing celebrities. Lorelai introduces herself and Rory, and Christiane Amanpour gives Rory her card and tells her to “send some stuff” and keep in touch.

Later, Lorelai reads about.com’s information about roller coasters out loud to Rory, as they are apparently planning a road trip. Rory finishes addressing eight billion resumes. Rory is sad about Logan for about five seconds. Lorelai is filled with angst over Luke, who she still thinks is no longer into her. Lorelai slips in the news about the Stars Hollow “Rory’s graduation re-enactment party” that’s planned for next week.
