The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards are this Sunday at 8pm on CBS. Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, it looks like two shows will have a stranglehold on the night: Mad Men for Drama and 30 Rock for Comedy, both coming in with an overwhelming lead in total nominations.

Last week, Flight of the Conchords returned for its sophomore season which saw Murray getting fired by Bret (Bret McKenzie) and Jemaine (Jemaine Clement) for spending all of his time managing the Crazy Dogggz. The New Zealand folk duo, on the other hand, was hired to make an advertisement for women's toothpaste but their success was short-lived as it was discovered that they are illegal immigrants in America. Moreover, Murray's (Rhys Darby) fortune was reversed after learning that the Crazy Dogggz's big hit is a rip-off of a 1990s Polish song.

Tonight, Flight of the Conchords returns to our small screens once again with an all-new episode. This time, it's called “New Cup,” and it centers on what happens after Bret buys a new tea cup. Apparently, Bret and Jemaine's fortunes unravel. And with the emergency band funds unavailable, Jemaine goes to desperate measures to increase his income.

Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie are back for a second season of their special brand of musical sitcom. After months and months of waiting, Flight of the Conchords returns with “A Good Opportunity,” which picks up directly where the last season left off.

Last time we saw the New Zealand folk duo, they were left in a troublesome position – grooving to an angry dance after losing their band manager Murray (Rhys Darby) and one and only fan Mel (Kristen Schaal) to rival band the Crazy Dogggz. Naturally, something had to be done to restore order to the band.

We have approximately four weeks before Flight of the Conchords invades our small screens with fresh quirky episodes (unless you've already seen the first episode of the second season on FunnyOrDie.com) and I thought it would be fitting to revisit some of the most hilarious storylines from season 1 that made Bret and Jemaine an irresistible comic concoction.

Created by cast members Jemaine Clemaine and Bret McClegnie, as well as James Bobin, Flight of the Conchords is a pleasing mix of deadpan wit, picturesque songs, and silly music videos written into the storylines. Jemaine and Bret take the center stage as guys from New Zealand trying to make it as a digi-folk band in New York City. The program's humor is mostly focused on trivial matters, but it also pokes fun at serious topics from time to time with its inimitable approach. And while most of the plots don't really count as groundbreaking comedy, the witty music videos make this half-hour series worth watching.

The 2008 Grammy nominations were announced earlier today, and there are some names among the nominees who TV fans will likely be familiar. The 51st edition of the Grammys will take place on Sunday, February 9 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The program will air on CBS. Though the Grammys have recently been criticized for not embracing more modern music in its prestigious categories, this year's nominees belie a transition into more modern fare. For instance, hip hop artist Lil' Wayne received the most nominations this year with eight. For TV fans, The Jonas Brothers (Camp Rock) were nominated in the Best New Artist category, Stephen Colbert (The Colbert Report) was nominated for Best Spoken Word Album, and Flight of the Conchords were nominated for Best Comedy Album with their self-titled debut.

Today, thanks to the hard work of Tom O'Neill at Gold Derby, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences released the official top 10 lists for this year's Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Comedy and Drama Series. The final top five nominations in every category will be announced July 18, but for the first time ever, ATAS is allowing its process to be transparent by revealing these top 10 lists so award lovers can get a preview of who's in the running.

For these top races, the lists include a few favorites and some surprises. ABC has a strong showing in the Drama lineup with Lost, Grey's Anatomy and Boston Legal while HBO dominates the Comedy side with Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage and even Flight of the Conchords making the list. I still can't believe HBO green lit Flight of the Conchords. It wasn't that long ago that HBO green lit another show about a two-person folk duo who played funny songs during their search for fame. It was called Tenacious D and, not long after their HBO comedy series was unceremoniously canceled, the D became famous. What made HBO think that another folk duo, this one from New Zealand, would do better than Tenacious D? Perhaps it was the pilot. Flight of the Conchords, which stars Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie as the sole members of a two-man band who move from New Zealand to New York in search or fame and fortune. Over the season's twelve episode's, they receive neither, but they do a hell of a lot of singing along the way.

Early this week, Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement, comedy duo and stars of HBO's Flight of the Conchords, released The Distant Future, an EP containing six tracks, three of which are live cuts. The tracks featured in the EP are “Business Time,” “If You're Into It,” “I'm Not Crying,” “The Most Beautiful Girl in the Room,” “Banter,” and “Robots.”

McKenzie and Clement, New Zealand's fourth most popular folk-parody act, have been active in the industry since 1988. They rose to prominence in the United States thanks to the video-hosting website, YouTube, which featured videos of the pair starring in their first HBO series, One Night Stand.

'Flight of the Conchords' Star Doesn't Like MySpace

MySpace is one of the largest social networking websites in the world. Adding to its popularity are the numerous celebrities who have signed up for their own accounts, many of which are open to the public. However, singer-comedian Bret McKenzie, star of HBO's Flight of the Conchords, is not impressed with the popularity of the website, even saying in an interview that he "thinks it's evil [and] corrupt."

Despite his negative views of the website, he and co-star Jemaine Clement have an active MySpace profile, wherein at least 18,000 people are registered in their contacts. McKenzie insists, however, that he is not a MySpace fan, and that it is actually Clement who maintains their account.

HBO’s latest comedy series, Flight of the Conchords, premiered last month, with comedy duo Bret McKenzie and Jermaine Clement headlining the cast. They play parody versions of themselves, but McKenzie pointed out there’s not much that differentiates them from their characters on the show.

"I'm not sure that we're aware of the differences in our characters," McKenzie said during the show’s session at the recent press tour. "We have exaggerated the stupidity, and Jemaine's much more of an [expletive]. But there's a little bit of truth in them which makes them believable on-screen as well."

How amazing is it that one name can instantly tell you what this Flight of the Conchords episode is going to be about? Bret (Bret McKenzie) is dating Coco (Sutton Foster), who we met in Episode 2 – she is one of his fellow sign holders. The entire episode revolves around how Bret's dating her affects Jemaine (Jemaine Clement) and the band. This kind of sounds familiar. Oh, that's right -- it is similar to the plot of the pilot episode "Sally." It is only the fourth episode of Flight of the Conchords – that's a bit soon to recycle a plot line.

Without focusing on the duplicative plot (for now), Bret and Jemaine still successfully bring the funny every week. The episode opens with Bret and Coco complimenting each other. She likes his eyes; he compares her lips to eggs. Yes, eggs – because they are both delicious. After a few minutes of the camera focusing on their rather intimate conversation, we pan back to reveal that Jemaine has been sitting there the whole time.

Episode Overview: When the Flight of the Conchords run across a pair of muggers, Bret leaves Jemaine behind, causing a rift in their friendship.

This Sunday night's episode of Flight of the Conchords on HBO revolved around Bret and Jemaine discovering the dark underbelly of living in New York City – they get mugged. Sounds scary, doesn't it? Well, it would be on any other television show, but this is Flight of the Conchords…so it was hilarious. The episode, "Mugged," more importantly marked the show's evolution into finding its own rhythm. With its voice, style and humor already well in place, rhythm was the one thing still holding it back somewhat. Not this week. This episode flowed from beginning to end with some of the funniest cut-aways and most brilliant absurdist humor yet, without faltering in pace and timing.

On Sunday night it was time for another refreshingly ridiculous, yet sometimes poignantly real, episode of the new HBO comedy Flight of the Conchords. In "Bret Gives Up the Dream," the band suffered a problem for many people who have aspirations that hinge on being "discovered" – making ends meet. The Flight of the Conchords may be "New Zealand's fourth most popular folk parody duo," but in America they are still trying to get their big break.

As of the second episode, they are starving artists, literally as the first scene illustrates when Bret comes home with a small sack of groceries and gives Jemaine a free sandwich – "free" meaning that he found it on the street. Jemaine gets up to spit it out, but then swallows it anyway. This is an indication of how dire the money situation is for the Flight of the Conchords as they're willing to eat food off the streets. As Bret says, "We're poor, man."
