“When we met at the audition [for Flash Gordon], I felt like I'd known him forever,” Holden said of her co-star. “I think I was meant to work with Eric. We have a lot of the same philosophies. He's the lead and he sets the tone. He's a joy.”

Holden and Johnson both star in the modernized live-action version of Flash Gordon. Johnson plays the show's eponymous hero, while Holden appears as Dale Arden, a television news reporter and Flash's former girlfriend.

'Flash Gordon' Actress Aware of Show's Downbeat Reviews

Flash Gordon has generated mixed reviews ever since Sci Fi decided to adapt its own live action version of the 1930s comic. In fact, cast member Karen Cliche is very much aware of the occasional off-putting but has some insights about the show that will hopefully entice viewers to stick around the season.

Cliche, who currently plays Baylin on Flash Gordon, says that she understands the sentiments of spectators since she has already worked on many science fiction projects before like Mutant X, Young Blades and Vampire High.

Producers De-Dorkify 'Flash Gordon'

Flash Gordon has gotten a major makeover for his television comeback.

In effort to veer away from classic comic book character's dorkish tendencies, producer Peter Hume has introduced more contemporary elements that have the new Flash Gordon wearing t-shirts and jeans, traveling via wormholes and exhibiting a sense of humor.

'Flash Gordon' Is a Flash in the Pan

Flash Gordon. What can you say. The fact is, there is a Flash Gordon for every generation and none of them are seamlessly comparable to the others. In our day and age, the most prominent is the 1980 feature film starring Sam Jones. Tonight, the Sci Fi channel launched the latest iteration, yet another in the long line of Flash Gordons meant to belong to a generation all its own. Still, it is difficult to watch without comparing it to what you know. For the sake of this Flash Gordon, that would preferably be nothing at all.
