Serial killers aren't supposed to care whether their victims are innocent or not but Dexter Morgan's recent mistake has turned him into one uneasy and uncomfortable monster. But it's not just because he defied the Code of Harry. Guilt is gradually eating him up now that he's killed an innocent man, making him more susceptible to risks and human emotion. On the other hand, Dexter isn't the type who laments and dwells on his blunders. In fact, he determined to quickly get past this unpleasant phase of his life and tries to move on by killing Trinity, the man who should have been on his killing table.

This morning the People's Choice Award nominations were revealed, and as always, it's populism at its best. On the TV side, the nominees often look like the top of the Nielsen ratings list, with a few notable and surprising exceptions. Shows like True Blood and Gossip Girl crept into the Favorite TV Actress categories while Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show features Lost, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural.

However, those are the very cool exceptions. For the most part, the list is full of CSI, NCIS, Grey's Anatomy, Two and a Half Men and other top-rated shows. Here are the major television nominees for this year's People's Choice Awards.

'Dexter' Review: Defying the Code of Harry

Ever since Dexter Morgan found out about Trinity's life as Arthur Mitchell, we've been treated with somewhat leisurely sub-plots as a substitute for Trinity's deferred- death-at-the-hands-of-Dexter. And it seems that Showtime's Dexter is just taking its sweet time trying to give viewers a chance to get to know Trinity a little bit more while Dexter picks up a thing or two from his newfound mentor. "Slack Tide" the seventh episode of Dexter's fourth season, is just about that. By the end of the episode, however, our favorite serial killer is left with even more hurdles than he can seemingly handle.

If there's one thing we've learned from last week's episode of Dexter it's that Dexter Morgan can't kill Trinity just yet. Dexter knows he has a lot to learn from Arthur Mitchell, who has been juggling suburban family life with serial killing and is doing a pretty good job at it for nearly three decades, so he continues playing Kyle Butler, the divorced family man who has found refuge under Arthur's fellowship. While this little setback may cost others their lives, it gives Dexter a fresh perspective on the rules that have kept Arthur a free man and thus, turning Trinity into some sort of mentor.

The moment we've all been waiting for finally happened in "If I Had a Hammer," the sixth episode of Dexter's fourth season: Dexter Morgan finally got up close to Trinity while we learned more about Arthur Mitchell's personal life. Last week, it was revealed that Trinity is a husband and father, proving that he and Dexter aren't so different at all. This week, however, we learned that Trinity is so much more than Dexter thought he would be because as it turns out, he's also a teacher, humanitarian, and deacon of his church.

No offense to Julie Benz, but I never really liked her character Rita on Dexter. She was tolerable during the first season but somehow she has turned into one of the most annoying personalities on the Showtime series. I'm sure Rita means well but I can't help but feel sorry for poor Dexter who's obviously suffocating whenever she nags and indulges in a little power trip. On the other hand, the writers must have a pretty good reason for building up her character this way and I wouldn't be surprised if Little Miss Homemaker turns out to be someone with a dark secret.

Life in suburbia doesn't get any easier for Dexter Morgan in Dexter's third episode entitled "Blinded by the Light" as he forces himself to blend in with the neighbors and be a father to Astor who's gotten even brattier than usual. It's the perfect camouflage though for a serial killer who's just waiting to set his sights on the next murderer that gets in his way. Unfortunately, suburban life is ruining his style and it doesn't help that all his neighbors are now vigilantly watching out for the person responsible for all the vandals.

Obviously, death is no stranger to a show like Dexter considering that our lead character is a serial killer who moonlights as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department. But every now and then, we're confronted with the reality that someone else will die on the show, besides rapists, murderers and criminals. And season 4 is no different.

If you recall, we've already witnessed the demise of Brian Moser, Dexter's biological older brother in season 1, Lila West, Dexter's sociopath Narcotics Anonymous sponsor, Sgt. James Doakes in season 2 and senior Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado in season 3. These deaths, however, are crucial and inevitable for our Dark Passenger to continue his journey.

Finally, we get some sort of answer to the question posed by several previews and trailers about Dexter's fourth season in which Dexter Morgan is now living life in suburbia as a husband and a father. Is he really living the dream? It certainly doesn't look like it, at least based on the season opener, which wastes no time giving viewers a glimpse of the rigors of parenthood while introducing the highly anticipated Trinity Killer.

Tonight's the night! It's the start of the new season of Dexter and consequently, we get a whole new Dexter Morgan, at least on the surface. He's still America's favorite serial killer only now he's more relatable than ever because he embodies what it means to be a husband and a father, and a pretty tired one for that matter.

"Living the Dream," the title of the fourth season opener of Dexter, is a clever play on words because we all know that Dexter Morgan has everything he could possibly want. A house? Check! A wife? Check! Kids? Check! Work as a blood spatter analyst for Miami Metro Homicide? Check! Unfortunately, life in suburbia is still unfamiliar territory for Dexter and the only thing he really needs right now is time for himself...and time to kill.

2009 Emmy Awards: Drama Predictions

With Dexter Morgan now living the dream as a husband and father, can season 4 possibly exceed Dexter's gripping third season? I'd like to believe so after watching the first episode of Showtime's hit series.

Like most of you, my expectations for Dexter are pretty high, especially with the addition of John Lithgow, who is so creepy and outright scary as the Trinity Killer. But it's a little bit different where I'm coming from since I'm not just a fan of the show ---I also have spoilery knowledge of what's in store this season, making it all the more difficult to enjoy the series. In spite of that, however, the fourth season opener absolutely blew my mind.

Most thriller series don't last very long, but it appears that Showtime's Dexter is a rare case. The dark crime drama whose characters are based on the novels of Jeff Lindsay is returning for its fourth season this fall while trying to shed light on one big question: Can America's favorite serial killer have it all?

We certainly won't know the answer on the September 27 season opener but finding out how it will all unravel is the fun part. The rest of season 4 puts forward an array of possibilities and challenges for the Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), the serial killer who works as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department, now that he's entered the world of marital bliss.
