The Deep End: Why Does Katie Holmes Think She Can Dance?

For those of you that tuned into our first installment of The Deep End - Is the Sorting Hat Full of Sorting Hate? - might've been confused as to why we didn't post our second episode last week. Long story short, we recorded it early because Kim was headed to San Diego for Comic-Con and then she accidently took it with her. Needless to say, it was slightly forgotten in a Comic-Con haze (Seriously though, have you ever been? It's madness). But don't you worry. We're back.

For those that didn't tune in week 1, go listen to it right now. Or, stay here and we'll catch you up on the premise. The Deep End is a weekly segment were Meghan Carlson and Kim Wetter (that's us) take a look at a little slice of pop culture. We'll take one idea, person or thing and talk about it in the most "intellectual" manner possible.

San Diego Comic-Con Releases Friday Schedule

First, let's get this out in the open: initial reports said that Supernatural and Smallville will have their panels on Sunday so don't freak out that the shows aren't included in the first two days.

Other than that, Friday's schedule looks amazing. Although my TV favorites aren't on the list, my movie favorites are. There a a couple more timing conflicts and I'm guessing that people are going to have to make some tough choices. When in doubt, stick with Whedon, Rodriguez, Cameron and Jackson.

Dawson's Creek: James Van Der Beek and Wife Heather McComb Get Separation

Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek, who recently played the director of Lucas' (Chad Michael Murray) movie on One Tree Hill, reportedly split up with his wife, Heather McComb. The two of them have been married for nearly six years, and finally decided that things were over between them.

According to sources, the couple got the separation about two months ago. However, they didn't immediately reveal it to the press. Still, James Van Der Beek and Heather McComb continue to be amiable towards each other.

'Californication' Creator Tom Kapinos Shoots Down 'Dawson's Creek' Days

The drama on Dawson's Creek didn't just overflow from television screens at the time, but it also occurred behind the scenes. Tom Kapinos, who is best known for his latest work on Showtime's Californication, discussed his horrid past on the hit 90s show.

Kapinos was at an LA Times Envelope Emmy screenwriting series panel when he talked about his days on Dawson's Creek. He was supposed to speak about his new series starring David Duchovny, when he pointed out that his previous work was practically the inspiration for Californication.

Joshua Jackson Wants 'Fringe' to be the Next 'X-Files'

Fringe has often been compared to shows such as The X-Files, Altered States, The Twilight Zone and Dark Angel, but cast member Joshua Jackson thinks that this is a little more than a lazy reference. The sci-fi series, which details the exploits of FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham, scientist Walter Bishop, and his son Peter as they investigate aspects of fringe science, is “trying to be a hybrid of a few different things,” according to the 30-year-old actor. On the other hand, Jackson hopes Fringe will eventually be used as a reference point when the next large sci-fi series debuts.

'Dawson's Creek' Alum Heading to 'One Tree Hill'

It seems that everyone of a certain age has an unexplainable affection for the stars of the late, arguably great teen drama Dawson's Creek. I shook my head in disbelief when Katie Holmes married Tom Cruise, cheered when Michelle Williams earned an Oscar nomination for Brokeback Mountain, and tuned into shows like Fringe and Justice just to see stars from the Creek try something new. Unfortunately, Dawson himself, James Van Der Beek, hasn't had much luck shaking his teen idol image. He's had memorable guest-starring stints on How I Met Your Mother and Criminal Minds, as well as a great turn on the big screen in The Rules of Attraction, but aside from that the Beek has been MIA.

Van Der Beek may never be able to shake the Dawson image, so why not embrace it? Entertainment Weekly has announced that the actor will be returning to his teen drama roots with an appearance on One Tree Hill later this season.

The WB is Resurrected Online

I love the CW for bringing me Gossip Girl and for having the guts to resurrect 90210, but there's no denying that the network pales in comparison to the glory days of the WB. For those of us who were teenagers in the '90s the WB was a truly special network. They brought us such classic shows as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dawson's Creek, Gilmore Girls and Felicity, and such charmingly forgettable fare as Blue Collar TV, The Mountain, Tarzan and Black Sash. It's hard not to feel affection for that bygone era, even if it did produce atrocities like 7th Heaven.

The WB may no longer exist on television, but it's currently enjoying a resurrection on the Internet. TheWB.com launched yesterday and features full episodes of many of the shows mentioned above, as well as games, a blog, desktop wallpapers and some original web series.

'Eli Stone' Enlists 'Dawson's Creek' Actress

Following a series of movie projects, Katie Holmes returns to the small screen to guest star on ABC's Eli Stone this coming fall. This casting news marks her first TV work since the teen drama Dawson's Creek as Joey Potter, a role she portrayed five years ago. It also marks her reunion with show co-creator and executive producer Greg Berlanti, whom she previously worked with on Dawson's Creek.

Eli Stone, for those who are not familiar, is a drama that stars Jonny Lee Miller as the title character. Stone is discovered to have an inoperable brain aneurysm, which causes hallucinations that may actually be divinely inspired visions of the future.

The Continuing Tragedy of Heath Ledger

A special, very private viewing/funeral for actor Heath Ledger was held today in New York City. Ledger's family arrived in Manhattan today for the ceremony and, afterwards, will transport the body back to Ledger's home country of Australia. Regarding Ledger's death, there's not much more in the way of details. The autopsy was inconclusive, though it's generally assumed that the tragedy was an accident and Ledger did not intend to take his own life. The most intriguing and, sadly, tabloid friendly story involves calls made to Mary-Kate Olsen that Ledger's masseuse made upon finding the body. These calls were supposedly made before she called 911 – though police are saying Ledger was likely deceased well before the masseuse found the body.

Heath Ledger Found Dead in New York City Apartment

Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon at 3:35pm in his apartment in downtown Manhattan. He was found in bed with sleeping pills around him, according to police who arrived on scene.

He was scheduled to have an appointment for a massage this afternoon, when the massage therapist and his housekeeper found him unresponsive. They immediately called 911.

What Are They Up To? Michelle Williams of Dawson's Creek

Although Michelle Williams previously worked on several acting gigs, she drew attention when she portrayed Jennifer “Jen” Lindley on the teen drama Dawson’s Creek. Her character was introduced to the show in the first episode when she arrived from New York City to live with her grandmother. Initially, she became Dawson Leery’s love interest, which caused tension for Joey Potter. Later, she also got involved with C.J., Pacey Witter, and Charlie Todd. In the end, it was revealed that she had a baby named Amy and that Jen eventually died of a heart condition.

His character was the son of the local chief of police and was often perceived as the underachiever of the family. Also known as the best friend of Dawson Leery, he frequently appeared in his early films. Throughout the series, he got involved with several women, including Andie McPhee, Audrey Liddell, Karen Torres and, finally, Joey Potter.
