Dance War: Kelsey Bourg Still Trying to Absorb Victory

As one of the members of Team Bruno on ABC's Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann, Kelsey Bourg is expected to encounter more opportunities as part of the winning group that has been awarded a recording contract with Hollywood Records. However, triumph and fame haven't sunk in just yet for this dance teacher from West Monroe, Louisiana.

"It hasn't fully gotten into my head that we won and that all the hard work has finally paid off," Bourg said.

In most competitions, winners are expected to be thrilled, while those who lost are likely to sulk in disappointment. But not for Carrie Ann Inaba, who was on the losing side in the two-hour final episode of Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann, which aired on February 18.

We've heard Bruno Tonioli's winning team and even their families' sentiments. Now, it's time to hear what Carrie Ann Inaba has to say about her team's fate on the competitive series.

It might be hard for the average viewer to get very excited about the results of Dance War. The show premiered to mixed reviews, with the general response that the show felt lackluster indicating that it might seem more like a hastily-prepared writers' strike product than a genuinely engaging talent contest like American Idol.

Competitions like Dance War, American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance and Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious certainly build anticipation throughout the season by hyping how “life-changing” a win could be for the selected contestant. And certainly, some American Idol contestants have moved on to legitimate recording careers, and the cash and validation that come from a win would likely be welcome to almost any performer's life. But as some viewers have wondered, does a win on a show like Dance War really mean anything in the long run?

Well, it might not be a guaranteed fast track to fame, but for the families of the four Team Bruno members, the win is reason enough to celebrate.

Carrie Ann Inaba's singing and dancing team suffered their first loss last week on Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann. This brings the score to Carrie Ann 2, Bruno 1. The two teams face off for the last time on tonight's season finale, and the winning team will be awarded with a contract with Hollywood Records. Will it be Carrie Ann's team, consisting of Elizabeth, Mariel, Chris, Qis and Bradley? Or will it be Bruno Tonioli's team, consisting of Kelsey, Phillip, Zack and Lacey?

Well, we can't find out until we wade through a seemingly never-ending recap of the previous six weeks. While I watch the recap, I'm struck by the difference in attractiveness between the two groups. Bruno clearly has the more TV-pretty team.

She started out as a Fly Girl on In Living Color, and Carrie Ann Inaba now has started a new career as a reality star of Dance Wars and Dancing with the Stars. Throughout her different roles in the entertainment industry, she's had the opportunity to open doors and broaden perceptions about Asian-Americans, and she recently shared her perspective on this aspect of her career.

For one thing, it sounds like being a role model wasn't exactly her first expectation back when she did land that role on In Living Color, but she quickly learned based on the feedback from fans.

Last week, on a country-themed Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann, Bruno Tonioli's team failed to curry as many votes as Carrie Ann Inaba's team did, and thus, they lost another talented member in Tony. So far, Carrie Ann's team remains unscathed, still consisting of the six original members: Elizabeth, Mariel, Allysa, Chris, Qis and Bradley. Unfortunately, Bruno's team was on the chopping block twice, and his ranks now only include Kelsey, Phillip, Zack and Lacey.

So far, the score is Carrie Ann 2, Bruno 0. What will tonight bring?

Dance War: Special Crossover Events on Monday's Show

Dance War is going crossover crazy!

Last week, the show introduced the audience to another new ABC star, The Bachelor's latest toothy fellow to take the plunge into reality world dating, Matt Grant. Sure, the two shows have nothing in common but pretty people, eliminations and a network, but what the heck: as my colleague Debbie Chang pointed out in her most recent recap, Dance War has to fill up its extra minutes one way or another.

For Monday's show, there are reported to be two more special events on the show for ABC and its parent company, Disney.

It was Motown/R&B night last week on Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann, and Teams Carrie Ann and Bruno danced and sang to the best of their abilities. Dance War being the kind of reality show in which you wish everyone could succeed, it was so sad to learn that Team Bruno got fewer votes than Team Carrie Ann last week. Bruno Tonioli had to make the difficult decision of cutting one member of his singing and dancing team, and that person was Charity. Now that Bruno is down a member, we'll find out tonight if his team held their own against Carrie Ann's team or if he'll have to cut another member at the end of the night.

The stage is set for a country music night on Dance War. For their big opening number, both teams join to perform "Big & Rich." They've got cowboy hats and boots on, and there is fringe everywhere. I kind of love it. I haven't been a country music fan for much of my life, but I've just started getting into it, so I really appreciate tonight's theme.

It is Motown/R&B night tonight on Dance War. As usual, the two competing teams on Dance War, Team Bruno and Team Carrie Ann, open the hour with a big group dance. After their swinging, rocking, twirling number, Drew Lachey brings out captains Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba who recap their week of rehearsals.

Lacey, Charity, Kelsey, Phillip, Tony and Zack, otherwise known as Team Bruno, perform "Think," and Bruno has put Lacey in the spotlight by making her his personal Aretha Franklin. She's a talented singer, but she's no Aretha. After the performance, Carrie Ann's critiques are that there isn't a lot of balance in the talent-level of the group, but Bruno begs to differ.

Most of the performers who are taking a shot at stardom on Dance War are having their first taste of the world of competitive reality television. However, for one Dance War contestant, Zack Wilson, some of it might be familiar territory, at least second-hand.

Zack has a close connection to two of the professional dancers from Dancing with the Stars, Julianne and Derek Hough. The Houghs and Zack all honed their craft at the Center Stage Performing Arts Studio in Orem, Utah. Derek and Zack knew each other as friends, while Julianne and Zack had a much more serious relationship.

Last week on Dance War, the top 14 finalists from all across the country sang and danced in front of team captains Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba, as well as a live audience. After careful deliberation, Bruno and Carrie Ann narrowed the field down to just 12 performers, and chose their teams. On Team Bruno are Zack, Tony, Lacey, Kelsey, Phillip and Charity. On Team Carrie Ann are Bradley, Chris, Mariel, Elizabeth, Qis and Allysa, Starting tonight, the two teams go head-to-head for the very first time, and we fans at home will be able to vote for our favorite. Next week, the losing team must eliminate a member.

It's pop music week this week on Dance War. The night begins with Team Bruno and Team Carrie Ann all performing "Spice Up Your Life" together.

Host of ABC's new performance competition Dance War, Drew Lachey might have been an unexpected breakout star prior to his time on Dancing with the Stars. Big brother Nick Lachey had seemed to be the biggest celeb in the reality television world for the family after his time on Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. But Drew's win of the second season of Dancing with the Stars gave him his own special place in the world of reality stardom.

He co-hosted part of the fifth season of Dancing with the Stars, and is now, of course, hosting Dance Wars. In case you just can't get enough of the former boy-bander, there will be some additional opportunities over the next few weeks.

ABC has expanded its new reality dance competition, Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann with the show's premiere episode running for two hours on Monday, January 7.

The series, the spin-off ABC's hit show Dancing with the Stars, will feature two teams of male and female amateur performers battling it out on the floor.
