'Damages' Actor Signs Up for New HBO Comedy

After earning his first Emmy nomination in 15 years for his sinister role as Arthur Frobisher on Damages, since Cheers, Ted Danson is staying on cable as he gets cast in a lead role in HBO's comedy, Bored to Death.

According to The Hollywood, the pilot is written by Jonathan Ames and directed by Alan Taylor. It stars Jason Schwartzman as a struggling Brooklyn writer with a drinking problem who pretends to be a private detective in the vein of his heroes from Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett novels. On the show, Danson plays his mentor-friend and pompous yet but articulate magazine editor.

George Wendt was popularly identified as Norm Peterson on the long-running comedy TV show Cheers. His entrance into the bar, which typically stars with a welcome by the bar crowd followed by a joke from Norm, became a running gag throughout the series. Initially an accountant, he also became a housepainter, a beer taster and an accomplished interior decorator. Although he was unemployed for quite some time, he was, ironically, still considered as the bar's best customer. At present, the 58-year-old actor actively remains in the limelight with his numerous upcoming movies.

Rhea Perlman caught viewers' attention when she was cast on the long-running comedy Cheers. From 1982 to 1993, she appeared on every episode of the series and received an unprecedented 10 Emmy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, which she won on four occasions. She portrayed Carla Tortelli, a waitress who outwardly expressed her disdain for a lot of people. In the course of the series, she had four children, married twice, and ended up having eight children by the time the show concluded.
