'Celebrity Circus' Gears up for Finale

NBC's Celebrity Circus, which, as the name implies, basically gives “celebrities” a taste of what's it like to work in a circus, is doing OK as far as the ratings go, despite criticisms that it was starting to look like a really bad Dancing with the Stars rip-off. The show, hosted by former boy band member and himself former Dancing with the Stars contestant Joey Fatone, actually leads networks among viewers 18-49, attracting 6.5 million viewers on the average.

As the reality show heads up to its season finale, three people are left in contention. Actor Antonio Sabato Jr., actress Stacey Dash and actor and Jason "Wee Man" Acuña of Jack Ass fame are now relying on votes from fans to give them the crown.

Safety measures and disclaimer fine print notwithstanding, Celebrity Circus takes the realm of reality programming to the voyeuristically twisted. Take a hapless lot of famous, non-Ringling Brothers celebs and get them to do death-defying circus stunts and tricks. What do you get? The potential for mouth-gaping bad falls, burns and tumbles. Of course, what are a few life-threatening scenarios in the spirit of riveting television?

When Celebrity Circus returns for its second broadcast this week, Christopher Knight, one of our daring celebrity competitors, will hope his fire insurance covers bodily harm and damage when he turns himself into the reality show's version of Heroes' Peter Petrelli.

Tonight, NBC invites viewers to witness a group of celebrities as they perform some of the most death-defying circus acts on the highly anticipated premiere of Celebrity Circus.

From the producers of NBC's smash hit game show Deal or No Deal, Celebrity Circus follows the entire journey of the celebrities, from their painstaking rehearsals to their attempt to perform breathtaking stunts in a head-to-head competition in front of a live studio audience. Of course, in order to do specialties like High Wire, Fire Dancing, Hand Balancing, Flying Trapeze, Chinese Poles, Aerial Silks, and the Wheel of Death, the stars will be guided by top experts and have eight weeks to train to perfect their acts.
