Premiere Date for 'Big Love' Season 4 Set

Finally! Several months after polygamy-themed HBO drama Big Love was renewed for a fourth season, the cabler has announced the premiere date for the fourth season of the series - and it will kick off in January 10.

Big Love, which is currently in production, moves on to its new season finding Bill declaring the formation of his own church (with him as leader of course), Joey suffocating Roman to avenge his wife Kathy's death (Roman's not coming from the dead, the creators confirmed, sadly), Barb being excommunicated from the Mormon Church, and Nicki reuniting with daughter Cara Lynn.

Child Actress Gets Bigger Role on 'Big Love'

Eleven-year-old Bella Thorne will play not the niece of Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn) and daughter of Cindy (Judith Hoag) as previously reported, but will instead take the role of Barb's daughter Tancy, to replace Jolean Wejbe, who played the role during Big Love's first three seasons.

Thorne has appeared on Entourage, The OC, and in five episodes of the now canceled Dirty Sexy Money. She also played Christian Slater's daughter on the NBC series My Own Worst Enemy. Her Big Love character will reportedly have deep anger issues.

HBO has announced that Big Love's fourth season is set to kick off in January next year.

'Big Love' Season 3 DVD Release Date Announced

HBO really knows how to hike up anticipation for its shows. Shortly after announcing that the highly anticipated (and very slow-cooking) fourth season of polygamy drama Big Love is set to kick off early next year, the cabler recently gave out the release date for the similarly highly anticipated release of the Big Love season 3 DVD.

According to HBO, the 10-episode Big Love - The Complete 3rd Season is due to hit stores December 22, giving fans of the show barely enough time to get themselves up to speed before the fourth season begins. Clever marketing. Running for approximately 600 minutes, the DVD set will of course cover the season that wrapped up March of this year. There is still no word on the available features on the set.

It was reported previously that Amazon.com had started taking pre-orders for the DVD as early as four months ago, even without the go signal of HBO and distributor Warner Home Video as well as a working title. At least now, if you want to brush up on your Big Love universe before confronting a potentially nerve-racking but exciting season, then get the DVD and get yourself up to speed.

HBO recently revealed that Emmy-nominated polygamy drama Big Love is set to begin its fourth season early 2010, with its creators revealing that something both "dramatic" and "game-changing" will mark its return. Big Love season 4 started filming this month.

Several running storylines from last season will continue in season 4, including the one involving an Indian casino. This despite the fact that Bill (Bill Paxton) is set to seek political office in Utah. "Let's just say the stakes are life and death and that he sees no other way but to batten down the hatches and dive into the fray," the creators said in an email.

HBO revealed today at the TCA Press Tour that the heavily anticipated fourth season of polygamy drama Big Love is set for an early 2010 kick-off. It also announced that it is renewing several of its high-rating original series.

Confirmation for the upcoming return was made as early as February this year, in the middle of third season, showing the network's faith on the show. An HBO exec also, meanwhile, expressed his disappointment that Big Love did not gather more nominations.

The women of Big Love will play a big part on the fourth season of the polygamy drama, when it returns to HBO (no date has been set). Big Love creators and executive producers Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer writes to the Los Angeles Times that all the females will be "starting from completely new positions of reality and conflict."

This batch of women of Big Love include the strong, potentially violent wife of Roman Grant Adaleen (Mary Kay Place), Bill's mother Lois (Grace Zabriskie), Bill's sister-in-law and wife of Joey Wanda (Melora Walters), Sarah's friend and co-worker Heather (Tina Majorino), and one of Alby's wives Lura (Anne Dudek).

"It's a season of rebirths, with all the excitement and danger that implies," says the creators, adding that Margie's (Ginnifer Goodwin) is also doing OK. "She's coming into her own in a way that's unprecedented for her character. Her struggles to reinvent herself in the midst of the patriarchal family system she's a part of is going to resound and echo through the season for her and Bill, and also for the other wives."

After snagging their first Emmy nomination after three seasons, Big Love creators and executive producers Mark Olsen and Will Scheffer tell the Los Angeles Times that while they're "beyond thrilled" for the recognition, they are also "disappointed" that none of their actors, writers, directors, or creative team were nominated.

'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' Veteran To Appear on 'Big Love'

Law & Order: SVU veteran Adam Beach is set to go on board for HBO polygamist drama Big Love's fourth season for a season-long recurring role as Tommy Flute, the son of Bill's (Bill Paxton) partner, the head of the Indian Gaming Casino Jerry Flute (Robert Beltran). Beach, 36, is best known for his roles as Marine Private First Class Ira Hayes in Flags of Our Fathers and Private Ben Yahzee in Windtalkers.

The HBO drama announced previously that it was on a lookout for two additions to its cast, including Barb's (Jeanne Tripplehorn) pre-teen niece and Cindy's (Judith Hoag) daughter and closeted gay Mormon and new Trustee of the Juniper Creek Assets who might also be a love interest for Alby (Matt Ross). Since Beach's role isn't any of these two things, Big Love is still looking for the two new characters.

Big Love was also recently embroiled in a controversy after the University of Utah accused HBO of infringing its copyright when a logo of the university was seen in a document the character of Paxton was holding in the season 3 finale last March.

The first one is Christie, Barb's (Jeanne Tripplehorn) pre-teen niece and Cindy's (Judith Hoag) daughter who was described as "a real hellion." They're also looking for an actor to play Dale, an empathetic closeted gay Mormon, who will be a partner in a big 8 accounting firm and might be a new Trustee of the Juniper Creek Assets. University Cries Foul Over 'Big Love' Episode

Some officials of the University of the Utah, fondly called the U, are clearly not fans of Big Love. Representatives of the university recently sent a cease and desist order to the producers of the HBO series after the university's copyrighted logo appeared in its most recent episode.

The U spokeswoman Coralie Alder says the school's logo and name was seen on an official-looking document on the show's third season finale "Sacrament" which may lead Big Love viewers to think that the school is in some ways associated with the polygamist drama.

The end of May means it's time to start campaigning for the Emmy Awards. Many shows have already started hitting voters with giant For Your Consideration DVD sets to get the coveted nominations. This season, however, there's a lot of gamesmanship going on for category placements as actors are moving from Lead to Supporting or vice versa in order to improve their chances at a nomination.

The biggest change is coming from Grey's Anatomy, where McDreamy himself Patrick Dempsey is dropping down to the Supporting Actor race after failing to get nominated as a Lead Actor for four years. While some might criticize the move as blatantly mislabeling himself in order to score a nomination, it's actually a bigger indictment on the show itself.

Last November, BuddyTV reported that Big Love will be losing some of its cast members as the polygamy-themed series heads further into the third season. The scoop came from Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, who said that “the Grim Reaper has been elevated to a series regular” and that there will be at least two significant deaths this season, one of which is so top secret only a handful of people were allowed to witness it.

"The scene wasn't on the call sheet and it was shot with minimal crew," the insider said. "But it wasn't too hard to figure out what was going on. The screaming was painful."

Tension filled the Henrickson households last week on Big Love as the coverage of Roman's trial intensified. Nicki (Chloe Sevigny) struggled with her devotion to her father and commitment to Bill (Bill Paxton), who urged the DA to offer protective custody to witnesses Kathy and Rhonda. At the courtroom, Bill begged Alby (Matt Ross) to talk to the D.A. but, seeing the case collapsing, Alby refused and planned to fight another day. In the end, the charges of suborning rape were dropped and Roman (Harry Dean Stanton) pleaded to lesser charges of false imprisonment.

Tonight, Big Love continues with the episode “Better or For Worse,” which finds Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn), Nicki and Margene (Ginnifer Goodwin) arguing over living arrangements in the wake of the Henrickson's recent expansion. Roman, who now has to attend victim empathy counseling and cannot return to the compound for six months, calls his children to his motel, offering up thinly veiled threats to the compound's hierarchy.

On the other hand, Barb learned that she may be sick again and Bill realized that this is the reason Barb changed her mind about dating Ana. Bill made a plea to Jerry, who then agreed to the unlikely partnership. By the end of the episode, Barb found out from the doctor that her test is clean and she suddenly saw Ana joining the family in new light.

'Big Love' Returns for Season 3 Tonight
