I guess I was also one of the few who not only didn't mind, but liked Jo's presence while it lasted. Like KanaKatastrophe, I was crying hard by the time Ellen realized Jo had gone and it just solidified how much impact these two characters had, even though they were very much looked over and dropped for over two seasons with no excuse in terms of the storyline. It was stated later on that because of the backlash she was written out, so obviously Ellen followed suite to make it that much easier. It's all kinds of messed up that they were brought back for only a couple of episodes at most and then used as a means to an end and a very pointless one at that.
Struck me as odd how all three men at the end, especially Dean, didn't shed a tear when they were watching the picture burn since we've seen them cry over less. Ellen was a motherly figure the boys relied on before being scrapped.
