I agree. I would want to go by bowing up a bunch of ugly hellhounds after kissing Dean.

Arent Ellen and Jo the only female hunters on Supernatural? Also Dean probably felt guilty because in the end they died for nothing! Sam and Dean didnt kill Lucifer and Ellen and Jo basically blew themselves up in order to give the boys a fighting chance. Also Jo went back to save Dean and got mortally wounded in the process! Dean is like the leader of the forces against lucifer and he was part responsible for the apocolypse, he feels responsible for all of them. The Harvelles died on his watch, theres bound to be some guilt, its just the way Dean's wired! So off course he would be affected by her death!

It was good to free Ellen and Jo back for those two episodes after a very long time away. It's a shame they had to die.

That sucks, even after losing some really great characters, their mission fails. That colt is hyped too much!!!

I guess I was also one of the few who not only didn't mind, but liked Jo's presence while it lasted. Like KanaKatastrophe, I was crying hard by the time Ellen realized Jo had gone and it just solidified how much impact these two characters had, even though they were very much looked over and dropped for over two seasons with no excuse in terms of the storyline. It was stated later on that because of the backlash she was written out, so obviously Ellen followed suite to make it that much easier. It's all kinds of messed up that they were brought back for only a couple of episodes at most and then used as a means to an end and a very pointless one at that. Struck me as odd how all three men at the end, especially Dean, didn't shed a tear when they were watching the picture burn since we've seen them cry over less. Ellen was a motherly figure the boys relied on before being scrapped.

I dont think it solidifies their impact on the show so much as it solidifies the ability of the writers. To make two rather insignificant characters likable and to portray the human and personal costs of the war. We wouldnt feel as sad about strangers dying as we would people like the Harvelles who we had already had some kind of emotional connection to, same goes for the impact on Sam and Dean. Its sad when people you dont know die but worse when people you do know die. The whole point of their deaths was to make Sam and Dean suffer Ellen and Jo were really the only two people who could have been used for this reason, there is nobody else left, anyone else the boys have been close to have already been killed! I commend the writers for getting their message across so well ! RIP Harvelles but now its time to move on! I'm sure there will be plenty more heartache to come and with a much more devestating impact on the boys and the viewers!
