On "Desperate Housewives," Edie Britt (Nicollette Sheridan) was a resident of Wisteria Lane. Edie was strong-willed and self-employed, and when she saw something she wanted, she went after it making sure nothing stood in her way. Edie was a real estate agent and had been married to Charles McLain (Greg Evigan) with whom she had a son Travers (Steven Lunsford). During the divorce with her first husband Edie let her husband have full custody of their son, because she thought she was a bad mother. She was also married to Umberto Roswell (Matt Cedeno). But Edie and Umberto got divorced because as it turned out, he was gay. Her third husband was Dave Williams (Neal McDonough). Dave was married to Edie for a short time and seemed to be happy before he tried to kill her. Throughout her time on the show, Edie also had many relationships with the ex-husbands of other characters.

Both Edie and Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher) were attracted to Mike Delfino (James Denton), their new neighbor which created tension between the two women. This continued to culminate until Susan accidentally burned down Edie's house. Susan felt extremely guilty and recorded the incident in her diary. Later Susan admitted the truth to Edie. Edie in turn used Susan's guilt as a way to join the housewives' poker group. Edie liked Mike and continued to hit on him, but Mike only had eyes for Susan. Edie was hurt when Mike and Susan moved in together. She tried to get the other housewives to convince Susan that Mike was bad for her, but Susan was sure that Mike was the one. Later Susan found out that her ex-husband had cheated on her with Edie while they were married.

Later on, Mike fell into coma and when he woke up, Edie was there. Edie realized that Mike had amnesia and could not remember the past 2 years of his life. She took advantage of this opportunity and made it seem like Susan was the villain in his life. Later Edie took on a new lover, Carlos Solis (Ricardo Antonio Chavira). When Carlos's ex-wife, Gabrielle ( Eva Longoria) found out, she was furious. She told Edie that she should stop seeing Carlos, but Edie refused. When Carlos told Edie he didn't love her, she then told him that she might be pregnant with his child and convinced him that they should try to make it work. So Carlos stayed, but soon realized that Edie was taking birth control pills. He told Edie that he could never trust her and refused to accept her apology. Edie pretended to commit suicide to get Carlos's attention. He felt responsible for her suicide attempt and decided to continue the relationship.

After 5 years Edie returned to Wisteria Lane as a new transformed woman and brought along her new husband Dave. Edie is accidentally killed while fleeing from Dave who only married her to get revenge on Susan and Mike for the car crash that killed his family.
