Worst TV Politicians: #9 Mayor E.B. Farnum, 'Deadwood'

October 31, 2008

Just in time for the election, BuddyTV brings you our list of the 15 worst politicians from TV.

<<PREVIOUS   |   NEXT>>

The epitome of an empty suit, E.B. Farnum on the HBO Western Deadwood became mayor by default when no one else wanted the position during a town meeting. Pointlessly proud of his job, he took great pride in acting like the leader of the town when, in reality, he had no power and asked Al Swearengen for permission to do anything. His silly preening and ineffectual leadership certainly make him one of the worst politicians in TV history.

But all that might change as someone from his past re-enters his life.

According to TV Guide, Zach Gilford's character will be getting a mom this season and she comes in the form of Kim Dickens.

What Are They Up To? John Hawkes of Deadwood

September 2, 2007

John Hawkes was famously known for his role on HBO's Deadwood.  He played Sol Star, the life-long best friend of Seth Bullock (Timothy Olyphant) and partner in the hardware business.  Generally, his character was composed and sensible but highly capable of standing up for himself whenever provoked.  As the only Jew in the camp, he was often mocked by Al Swearengen (Ian McShane) but refused to be affected by his ridicule.  Aside from his business acumen, he was also noted for his infatuation with Trixie, Al Swearengen's favorite whore.  In the coming months, the he will be featured in a series of movies, ranging from drama, crime and comedy.

What Are They Up To? Brad Dourif of Deadwood

September 2, 2007

Brad Dourif was noted for playing Dr. Amos Cochran on HBO's Deadwood. As the only doctor in the camp, his character was well respected and revered despite his apparent substance abuse problem.  Throughout the show, he took his profession seriously, which included taking care of the whores at The Gem, and even maintained an interest in medical research, which put him more in sympathy with modern physicians than his contemporaries. Dourif lingered on the show from 2004 to 2006 and earned several award nominations for being an outstanding supporting cast member.  This year, the 57-year-old actor will be marking his comeback with several drama films and a horror movie.
