Danny Glover is an actor who is most famous for his role as Los Angeles police Sgt. Roger Murtaugh in the Lethal Weapon movie series. Through the years, he has also established himself as a film director and a political activist.
Born on July 22, 1946 in San Francisco, California, Danny Glover is the son of Carrie and James Glover, both of whom were postal workers and were active in the NAACP. He attended George Washington High School before studying at the American University and matriculating at San Francisco State University, where he met his future wife Asake Bomani, whom he married in 1975. They have been divorce for some time now.
Glover honed his acting skills by participating in numerous classes. He enrolled in the Black Actors Workshop at the American Conservatory Theater, a regional training program in San Francisco, and trained with Jean Shelton at the Shelton Actors Lab in San Francisco. After realizing that he wanted to make a living out of acting, he resigned from his city administration job and soon embarked on a career as a stage actor, which eventually led him to Los Angeles.
While Glover appeared in a variety of movies and TV roles, he massively gained fame as he starred alongside Mel Gibson in the buddy cop action-comedy film Lethal Weapon in 1987. The film spawned the release of Lethal Weapon 2 in 1989, Lethal Weapon 3 in 1992, and Lethal Weapon 4 in 1998. Glover was also noted for his role as the abusive husband to Whoopi Goldberg's character Celie in The Color Purple, and was recognized for his performance in Predator 2, the sequel to the sci-fi action flick Predator. Some of his other film credits include Saw, Manderlay, The Shaggy Dog, and Dreamgirls. He also voiced the character Miles the Mule in the animated film Barnyard. In 2008, he got a role in the film adaptation of Jose Saramago’s Blindness, and was slated to appear in other movies like This Life, Por Vida, The Harimaya Bridge, 2012, and Night Train.
Aside from the big screen, Danny Glover has also made his mark on TV as he landed a recurring role on the ABC drama Brothers & Sisters as Isaac Marshall. Prior to that, he also recurrently appeared on the medical drama ER as Charlie Pratt Sr. and on Hill Street Blues as Jesse John Hudson. In 2009, he was cast as Troy on the NBC comedy Community starring Joel McHale.
