Greg Sanders (Eric Szmanda) is a Level 3 Crime Scene Investigator on the hit show "CSI." Greg began his career as a lab tech in the CSI unit and became a CSI after some urging from his former supervisor Gil Grissom (William Petersen). Since Grissom left the CSI unit, Greg has looked to new supervisor Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) and co-worker Nick Stokes (George Eads) for guidance and support. His relationship with David Hodges (Wallace Langham) provides comedic relief as Greg thinks Hodges is extremely annoying and takes every opportunity to poke fun at him.
Greg has grown up over the years. In the beginning, he dressed in casual, loud Hawaiian shirts and listened to heavy metal music in the lab. After his promotion, he began wearing more formal clothes yet still retained his wacky and jovial attitude. Greg had a close call in season 3 when he was seriously injured in an explosion in the lab. In season 7, he had another close call while trying to break up a gang attack on a tourist. One gang member attacked him and he had no choice but to run him over with his SUV. The gang member died, and his family won millions in a wrongful death lawsuit against the city.
Fans love Greg Sanders for his carefree, wacky demeanor which he often uses to offer a comedic escape from serious, gruesome crime scenes. His brotherly relationship with his co-workers also gives him a boy-next-door charm.
Greg: "So how many grains of sand in the ocean? Huh?"
Nick: "I don't care about the ocean. Just the sand in my skeleton. Can you pinpoint a beach?"
Greg: "I don't know. I may have to do some field research. Hey, think Grissom would send me to Hawaii?"
