'Close to Home' Heartthrobs Continue to Shine in Films

David James ElliottSince the legal drama, Close to Home, got axed from CBS' lineup in May, many of its stars have since gone on to do projects for the big screen.

David James Elliott who starred as District Attorney James Conlon on Close to Home, headlines the family comedy, The Rainbow Tribe, which is slated for release in February of next year. The film is based on a true story and follows the travails of middle-aged Morgan Roberts as he meets up with his best friend and revisits the summer camp of his younger years. He comes across a bunch of shabby and disheveled 10-year olds and together, they rise above their individual troubles and experience one of the most memorable and meaningful summers of their lives.

The movie, which is currently still being filmed, also features Ed Quinn from Eureka and Stephen Tobolowsky from Deadwood.

close to homeJohn Carroll Lynch was known as Steve Sharpe on Close to Home, a legal drama that follows a female lawyer as she struggles to balance her family life and career as a criminal prosecutor in Indianapolis.  He portrayed the role of Steve Sharpe and was mainly exposed during the first season of the series.  His character worked as a County Prosecutor who was the boss of Maureen Scofield and lead character Annabeth Chase.  After 21 episodes, he left the show and was replaced by Assistant District Attorney James Conlon (David James Elliott) during the second and final season of the series.

close to homeKimberly Elise gained substantial television exposure as one of the principle cast members of the legal drama Close to Home.  For the duration of the series, she played Maureen Scofield and earned an Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.  She portrayed a criminal prosecutor who was promoted instead of lead character Annabeth Chase (Jennifer Finnigan).  As Annabeth’s superior, she was perceived as a no-nonsense lawyer who prioritized her career and pushed Annabeth to do the same. Towards the end of the series, Maureen was assassinated as a result of several prosecutions pertaining to police corruption but was given justice by Annabeth when she prosecuted Maureen’s assassin.
