Canadian actress Christina Cox was born on July 31, 1971 in Toronto, Ontario. As a child, she was very athletic, competing in gymnastics, track and field and taekwondo, and also proficient in boxing, kickboxing and fencing later on. At one point, she aspired to become an Olympic athlete, but instead chose to focus on drama and dance during her high school years. She would later train at the Ryerson Theatre School of Toronto.
Her screen debut was in 1992, when she played a guest role in the Canadian television series Forever Knight. Two years later, she made her film debut, appearing in the horror flick Spike of Love. Most of her early roles took advantage of her athletic training; she was also trained in stage combat and firearms. Her first regular television role was in the drama series F/X: The Series, where she took on the role of Angie Ramirez. The series earned her a Gemini Award nomination.
Cox’s profile was significantly raised when she starred in the romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate. Released in 1999, she played Kim, the new lesbian lover of lead Maggie (Karyn Dwyer). The independent release won numerous awards in different film festivals around the world, and was also a sales success in Canada. She then starred in films such as Sometimes a Hero, The Chronicles of Riddick and Ascension Day, and also performed stunts for Million Dollar Baby.
Cox also appeared in numerous television shows as a guest, such as CSI: Miami, Cold Case, House, Andromeda, Mutant X and Stargate: SG-1. In 2007, she got another regular television role, joining the drama series Blood Ties as the lead Victoria Nelson, a former police investigator whose failing vision forces her to leave the force and work as a private investigator. She also appeared in theater, having appeared in productions of plays such as Twelfth Night and Road.
