American actress Chlo? Sevigny is known for her performances in numerous independent and art house films, as well as her role in Boys Don’t Cry and the television series Big Love. Born November 18, 1974 in Darien, Connecticut, she first gained fame as a model for several fashion magazines and clothing lines. She was also a subject of an article in The New Yorker, which described her as the new “it-girl.” She made her film debut in 1995, when she played HIV-positive teen Jennie in the controversial Larry Clark film Kids.
Sevigny’s next films consist mostly of independent releases: 1996’s Trees Lounge, 1997’s Gummo, and 1998’s Palmetto and The Last Days of Disco. She rose to prominence in 1999, when she starred in the critically-acclaimed film Boys Don’t Cry. Her role as Lana Tisdale, the girlfriend of transsexual Brandon Teena (Hilary Swank), who was raped and later murdered, earned her Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actress. She later appeared in films such as American Psycho, Julien Donkey-Boy and A Map of the World.
In 2000, she co-starred in the award-winning television movie If These Walls Could talk 2, where she played a butch lesbian dealing with the feminist movement in the 1970s. 2003, Sevigny played a minor role in the Nicole Kidman-starrer Dogville, and also took a major role in the independent film Brown Bunny, which attracted a lot of controversy due to the graphic sexual nature of the final scene. After other minor roles in film and television, she starred in the HBO miniseries Big Love, where she played Nicolette Grant, one of the wives of a polygamist.
