British citizen Charles Shaughnessy is an Emmy Award-winning film and television actor born on February 9, 1955 in London, England. The son of actress Jean Lodge and scriptwriter Alfred Shaughnessy, his earliest acting experiences were plays in grade school. He attended Eton and Cambridge University, where he became a member of the famous Footlights club. He decided to return to acting by enrolling in a London drama school, and toured with a repertory company after graduating. Later on, he moved to America and landed numerous roles on film and television.
From 1984 to 1992, Charles Shaughnessy became known for playing the character Shane Donovan on Days of Our Lives. However, his acting career began when he was cast as Julian Spears on the series Jury. He was later seen on General Hospital, Till We Meet Again, Murphy Brown and Mad About You. He later lent his voice to the title character in Duckman: Private Dick/Family Man and some characters in the animated series Gargoyles. From 1993 to 1999, he became known for his portrayal of Maxwell Sheffield in the series The Nanny, co-starring Fran Drescher. The two of them worked together once more on the series Living with Fran, but this failed to achieve much success. In 2002, Shaughnessy was cast in the made-for-TV Disney movie Get a Clue, starring Lindsay Lohan and Bug Hall. He also starred alongside Caroline Rhea on the Halloween movie Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire, and has appeared on an episode of Stargate: SG-1. Some of his other credits include roles in Veronica Mars, National Lampoon’s Dorm Daze 2, The Wild Thornberrys Movie, Touched by an Angel, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He is also known for playing the character August Martin on the series Saints & Sinners, and starred on the drama Polar Opposites and Permanent Vacation.
