Born and raised in Chicago, Cassidy Freeman started out pretty young in the acting biz, taking part in musicals, school productions, and choral groups during high school. Right after graduation, she entered the Cherubs program at Northwestern University in 1999. She then set off taking in a career in theater performing at The Lyric Opera of Chicago. She underwent training at Playhouse West under Robert Carnegie. She also went to The Actors Center in New York City.
Freeman didn’t miss a beat, even while studying at Middlebury College, where she was part of the Potomac Theater Project. She still managed to do some theater and basically get involved in the thespian world. During college, she was given a chance to travel to Bolivia for a semester. While there, she studied the country’s history and culture. After which, she started doing plays in Washington D.C. and New York. In Los Angeles, she officially became part of The Sight Unseen Theater Group. During her spare time, she became a teaching staff member of a non-profit after school program called Virginia Avenue Project.
Freeman got her first major break in 2008 when she was cast as Tess Mercer in the CW series Smallville. According to her, “Tess Mercer, she's fierce, she's fun, she came from nothing and she worked her way, and she's super, super smart, which I love. She started working for Lex, and saw how powerful he was, and how strong he was, and she was thankfully chosen as the one to sort of fill in for a while."
Prior to this engagement, she was in the pilot of the medical drama Austin Golden Hour, also on the CW, opposite Justin Hartley, who is also on Smallville. Her other film credits include Razor Sharp in 2006, Clock in 2006, and Starlet in 2008.
