Born and raised in the Bronx, writer and actor Carl Capotorto got his Liberal Arts degree from the State University of New York in 1981 and a Masters degree in Playwriting from Columbia University School of Arts after three years. His accomplishment in theater is such that his plays have been produced in companies such as Yale Repertory Theater and Ensemble Studio Theater. He has appeared in numerous feature films and short films created by Tim Robbins, John Patrick Stanley and Peter MacNicol.
However, Capotorto is best known for his performance as Paulie Germani on the critically acclaimed HBO series The Sopranos, where he plays the nephew and right hand man of Paulie Gaultieri. In fact, when Paulie was jailed for several months for gun charges, Little Paulie proved to be invaluable to his uncle. In addition to this role, his other principal credits include the movies Five Corners, American Blue Note, Men of Respect, Jungle Fever, and Mac, where he co-starred with a fellow The Sopranos co-star. Meanwhile, he was also in Riding in Cars with Boys and Law and Order: Criminal Intent.
Other than being an actor, Capotorto is also a published author with a darkly comic memoir about growing up in the Bronx during the 1960s and 70s called Twisted Head published by Random House. He also has a solo show of the same name had sold out venues including at the Laugh Lounge, the Laugh Factory, and the Improv. His solo comedy material was also part of National Public Radio’s 20th Anniversary season of The Play’s The Thing.
As for stage, Capotorto have appeared at the National Playwrights Conference of the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, Yale Repertory Theater, the Vineyard Theater, Theater for the New City, and the Actors Studio. In fact, he received a screenwriting fellowship from the Chesterfield Writers Film Project at Universal Studios.
