Emmy Award-winning American actor and screenwriter Bradley Whitford was born on October 10, 1959 in Madison, Wisconsin. He majored in Theater and English at Wesleyan University, before going on to earn a Fine Arts degree from the prestigious Juilliard School. He first performed on Broadway in the stage version of A Few Good Men. He has also acted in other television series such as
ER and
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip , and won his Emmy Award for his work in the NBC political drama The West Wing. He is married to
Malcolm in the Middle star
Jane Kaczmarek , and they devote their time together to their three children: George, Frances, and Mary Louisa.
Josh Lyman is played by Bradley Whitford in the Emmy Award-winning television drama series The West Wing. Born and raised in Westport, Connecticut, he was a Fulbright Scholar who graduated cum laude from Harvard University, then went on to earn a degree in law from Yale Law School. He is deeply affected by the death of his sister Joanie, especially since she died in a fire while he was very young. He is also a non-practicing Jew, and his grandfather survived the Nazi concentration camp Birkenau during World War II. Lyman is a cocky know-it-all with a charming and roguish demeanor, as well as a sharp mind.
