Biography

An American stand-up comedian, TV host, actor and filmmaker, Bob Saget was born on May 17, 1956 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Rockbridge County High School and Abington High School, originally intending to become a doctor. He was urged by his Honors English teacher to pursue a career in film, which he later agreed to. He studied at Temple University where he made a student film, Through Adam's Eyes, which was honored by the Student Academy Award. After college, he started doing stand-up comedy. His unabashedly vulgar comedic approach made him popular and controversial.

In 1987, Bob Saget wrote for and produced The Morning Program for CBS, also co-hosting the show. He left it after six months, and was soon cast as Danny Tanner in the comedy series Full House. The series became a huge success, and Saget was catapulted to popularity. He then took on the hosting job for America’s Funniest Home Videos in 1989, becoming busy with both shows. He did both simultaneously until Full House ended its run in 1995, leading Saget to continue hosting AFV. He left the show two years after when his contract expired, and pursued other projects. He starred in the television movie For Hope on ABC, which was inspired by the life story of his sister. Since then, he has appeared on a variety of other shows, even narrating the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. In 2006, he appeared as the host of the game show 1 vs. 100 on NBC, as well as voicing a character on the TV movie Casper’s Scare School and getting a role on an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He has also appeared in New York Minute, Raising Dad, The Aristocrats and Dumb and Dumber: When Harry Met Lloyd. He also took his talents to the stage, appearing in the Broadway musical The Drowsy Chaperone. In 2008, he joined the cast of the CW series, Surviving Suburbia, portraying the lead character Keith Stever. On that year as well, Seget’s caricature was unveiled at the famous Sardi’s Restaurant.
