Fall Anticipation Rankings: #17 - Worst Week
BuddyTV is looking at the 17 new shows the major networks will premiere this Fall to see which ones are worth getting excited about and which ones we have low expectations for.

Show Description: Based on the British series The Worst Week of My Life, this CBS comedy follows a magazine editor named Sam who is constantly getting himself into awkward situations around his future in-laws in the days leading up to his wedding.

When: Mondays at 9:30pm on CBS

Cast: Kyle Bornheimer, Erinn Hayes, Kurtwood Smith, Nancy Lenehan

Anticipation: Very, very low.  Though Smith (Eric's dad on That '70s Show) and Lenehan (Earl's mom on My Name is Earl) are reliable character actors, the preview clip indicates the show will go for crude, broad comedy at every possible turn.  Adapting a British series for American television is a hit-or-miss game.  You either end up with The Office or Coupling.  This one seems destined for the latter.

Similar Shows: Dealing with disapproving in-laws is a staple of sitcoms that rarely delivers huge laughs.  In the best case scenario, you have a show like Dharma and Greg.  However, given the impending nuptials of the lead characters in Worst Week, the most apt comparison could be to Big Day, the very short-lived ABC series.  That show's first season took place on the main couple's wedding day, where everything went wrong.  At least it would have if it wasn't canceled before it finished its run.
