Women's Murder Club, based on a line of bestselling novels from James Patterson, is slated to debut October 12 as part of ABC's 2007 fall offering. As the title suggests, the upcoming series revolves around a bunch of crime-solving women.
Ahead of its first day of filming, the four female leads of
Women's Murder Club spoke about the show and what it's like being part of an all-female team on and off screen.
Angie Harmon,
Paula Newsome,
Laura Harris and
Aubrey Dollar agreed to answer some questions for ABC.
When asked whether the show can be considered realistic, Paula Newsome, who plays medical examiner Claire Washburn on
Women's Murder Club, said that the new series is very realistic and relevant.
“I think it's extraordinarily realistic,” Newsome said emphatically. “One of the reasons why this series is so successful is because so many women identify with it.”
The cast was then asked how they thought their
Women's Murder Club characters would fare as against a group composed solely of men. Their answers ranged from factual to humorous.
Laura Harris, memorable for her role as the misguided terrorist wannabe, Marie Warner, on the second season of
24, had every reason to believe that women would work better together and eventually prevail over men.
“They do say, like in those anthropological studies, that women work together as a team exceptionally well,” the 30-year old actress chipped in. “That men do it differently – they appoint a leader. So if there was a race [between a group of men and a group of women], I'd bet money on the ladies.”
While Harris' view may be grounded on factual research, two of her co-stars had different ideas about why women are better than men.
“Well we certainly smell better,” Angie Harmon offered.
Paula Newsome couldn't agree more when she added, “And isn't that what it's about.”
Finally, how does a cast made up primarily of ladies get along? Thankfully, Harmon assures us that there is nothing but positive energy among them.
“It makes for a very great set,” Harmon revealed. “We're very aware of each other; very supportive.”
