Following tonight's investigation of a missing ex-convict in “One Wrong Move,” Without a Trace
gets a dab of the holiday season as it features a legendary character popularly associated with Christmas. Though this time of year calls for everyone to be jolly, the special agents will have to set aside the festivities as they take on yet another missing person's case in the episode “Clause and Effect,” which airs on December 13.

In the 10th episode of the series, the team attempts to search for a college student who vanishes while working in a mall as a store Santa Claus after receiving some death threats. As the squad delves deeper into the investigation, they speculate whether or not the former child prodigy has been using his genius for criminal endeavors.

is a drama about the New York missing persons unit of the FBI.
As a special task force whose sole responsibility is to find missing persons, they apply complex psychological profiling practices to peel back the layers of the victims' lives and trace their whereabouts in an attempt to find out whether they have been kidnapped, murdered, or if the committed suicide or simply run away. The team recreates a "day of disappearance" timeline that details every minute of the 24 hours prior to the disappearance and digs into every facet of the victim's life.
