Friday nights on ABC are all about going into the homes of real families and stirring things up.
In
Wife Swap, two families from the opposite ends of lifestyle or social class exchange wives/mothers for two weeks. For the first week, the new wives must live by the current families rules, but in the second week, they may establish their own rules in the new household. At the end of the two weeks, the two couples meet together to discuss what they have learned during the swap. The social experiment is meant to broaden the horizons of the families involved, but often ends with the two couples vehemently disagreeing.
In
Supernanny, Jo Frost typically uses positive reinforcement and praise to deal with unruly children. Just like
Wife Swap,
Supernanny is a remake of a British television show that appeals to those of us inclined toward schadenfreude.
