Who Wants to be a Superhero? enters its third week of campy competition with a familiar, yet interesting twist. This week's villain, Dr. Dark, challenges the would be comic heroes to a pursuit through an amusement park. In the end, the group will be cut from eight to seven, or so it seemed until the shocking elimination round. For the first time, the heroes were split into teams, but Dr. Dark had some information that would strike at the foundation of team work, the revelation that there was a mole within the group.
From the beginning we see some of the typical problems. Diffuser is way too in everybody's face,
Ms. Limelight is completely clueless, and
Mr. Mitzvah is just sort of hanging in the background.
The pursuit through the park turns out to be a time trial. Limelight struggles with the map and finds herself a complete detriment to her team.
When the fledgling comic book characters discover a roller coaster ride is in their pursuit, some cowards are flushed out. Mr. Mitzvah refuses to ride the Rollercoaster with Hyperstrike, claiming he is a better runner than a rider. Whip-snap also refuses to take the coaster. In the end, Mitzvah winds up lagging behind with a seemingly bum wheel, but does push through to the end.
The interesting part comes when the group tries to figure out who the mole is. Some of this is done onscreen, and some off. The most visibly uncomfortable comes when Diffuser instigates a team meeting to discuss his suspicion that Mr. Mitzvah is the mole. Mitzvah comes in half way through and faces an interrogation. Nobody is convinced that he is not the mole.
When it comes time for feedback, we find out that Mr. Mitzvah and Whip-Snap were both called out as better sidekicks than super heroes. As for the mole? The suspects turn out to be Parthenon, Mr. Mitzvah, and Hyperstrike. Elimination time.
Stan is pretty harsh on everyone. He reveals first that the mole, in fact, never existed. This casts a particularly unfavorable light on Diffuser, for ganging up on Mitzvah. In the first round, he pulls forward Mr. Mitzvah, Ms. Limelight, and Basura. Basura was the only one that was a surprise here. With Diffuser in lynch mob mode, I really expected him to be called out for anti-hero antics. The first one to go? Not surprising, Mr. Mitzvah. He's been on red twice before, you had to see this one coming.
What no one saw coming was a second elimination. Since the theme of the episode was team-work, it made sense for two to take the walk of shame. Stan called out Hyperstrike and admonished him for not even attempting to help Mr. Mitzvah overcome his fear of the rollercoaster. The elimination, however, goes – again, not surprisingly – to Ms. Limelight. Let's face it, her cluelessness has landed her on the red block before, and this week was no difference. Time to face the fact that the blond act is not an act at all.
