'Weeds' Star Talks About Her New Film Project
'Weeds' Star Talks About Her New Film Project
Popular for her role as Ruth Jamison in the 1991 film Fried Green Tomatoes, Mary Louise Parker is comfortable in playing edgy, sometimes dark roles which eventually earning her Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe awards.  In fact, the 43-year-old actress can now be seen in the Showtime series Weeds, in which she plays the struggling housewife-turned-drug dealer, Nancy Botwin.  Following the unexpected death of her husband, Nancy enters the illegal drug business to support her suburban family.

In last night’s episode entitled “Yes I Can”, we saw the feisty Nancy as she fought and appealed to the big boss to get her cut in an operation.  Meanwhile, her friends Doug (Kevin Nealon) and Andy (Justin Kirk) progress in their human-smuggling mission.

Recently, Lo of After Ellen caught up with the 43-year-old multi-awarded actress in Los Angeles to talk about her current projects, which include Les Passages, a film by Donna Vermeer.

Parker seems very enthusiastic about it, saying, “I would like to do a French-speaking movie…I want to do [Les Passages].”

However, it seems that the movie is having some difficulty getting financial support.  Parker says that “it doesn't have funding, so it's not imminent.  Someone needs to fund it.  I would be happy to do it, but it's not funded.”

As for her character in the film, Catherine, Parker says that “I think the writers don't want me to speak about it yet because they're still rewriting it.  It's not shrouded in mystery or anything, but … it's hard because they haven't been able to get money for it.  So hopefully they'll get money for it and we'll be able to talk about it one day 'cause it'll be happening, but it's not [right now].”

For fans of Mary-Louise Parker, this may be reminiscent of Fried Green Tomatoes, in which she played Ruth Jamison, who captured the heart of tomboy Idgie Threadgoode, played by Mary Stuart Masterson.  It seems like Parker has enough lesbian film experience as she is already giving tips to her friend, Cat Davis. Parker’s general piece of advice?

“Be nice to women, that's what they want,” she says.  Moreover, she says that she loves her lesbian fanbase, admitting that “I have a soft spot [for them].”

Catch more of Mary Louise Parker in Showtime’s Weeds every Monday at 10pm.
