Mary-Louise Parker will soon be engaging in a May/December romance. However, it won’t be on
Weeds, the Showtime marijuana-themed series where she stars as the lead character Nancy Botwin. This time, it will be in the upcoming film called
Solitary.
According to the
Hollywood Reporter,
Solitary is a drama about an ex-car dealership owner named Ben whose career and marriage have withered because of his morally corrupt behavior. The
Weeds actress will be redirecting her affections from one ethically-challenged man to another by playing a powerful socialite named Jordan, the love interest of Michael Douglas’ Ben.
Now that
Weeds has recently wrapped up its fourth season last month, Parker will have more time to focus on
Solitary, which will begin filming next month in New York. This set-up fits in quite well with the 44-year-old actress as she is currently based in Manhattan.
Aside from Michael Douglas, who is credited for
Basic Instinct, A Prefect Murder and upcoming projects such as
Beyond a Reasonable Doubt and
The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past,
Solitary also features Susan Sarandon (
Rescue Me, Middle of Nowhere, In the Valley of Elah),
Danny DeVito (
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Deck the Halls, When in Rome) and
Jenna Fischer (
The Office, Blades of Glory, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story), just to name a few.
Solitary is just one of several movie projects lined up for Parker for 2009. Also currently in production is the drama
Howl, which centers on the obscenity trial Allen Ginsberg after the publication of his poem. The film also stars James Franco, Paul Rudd and Jeff Daniels, among others.
Parker will also be appearing in
Passages, Les, a romantic comedy that stars Julie Delpy (
ER, Before Sunset, The Air I Breathe). Last but not the least, she’s gearing up to play Hedda Gabler in the Roundabout Theatre Company's new take on Henrik Ibsen's classic play of the same name. Following the January-March run, Parker will return to her hit Showtime series for its fifth season.
