At the same time as the Sci Fi Channel becomes Syfy, the network is set to launch so-called thrilleromedy Warehouse 13 with a two-hour premiere on July 7 at 9pm. The pilot was penned by Battlestar Galactica co-executive producer Jane Espenson and Farscape creator Rockne O'Bannon. Apart from the two-hour pilot, the remaining 11 episodes to complete the order started last February. It was described as part The X-Files, part Raiders of the Lost Ark, and part Moonlighting.
Warehouse 13 revolves around a tandem of secret service agents, a good cop bad cop pairing, who works at the government's mysterious Warehouse 13 in South Dakota, where supernatural objects are being stored. The two, Myka and Peter, are assigned to retrieve missing objects and investigate reports of new ones. Peter, played by Eddie McClintock was described as the rule-bending agent, while Myka, played by Joanne Kelly, is the by-the-book one. Three-time Emmy-nominated actress CCH Founder is reportedly playing Mrs. Fredric, the director of the secret government organization. Saul Rubinek will play Artie, the caretaker of the artifacts.
McClintock, 41, was on
Desperate Housewives in 2006 as Frank, the father of Gabrielle and Carlos' adoptive baby, and had a recurring role on
Bones in 2007 as Special Agent Tim Sullivan. His other credits include guest spots on
Sex and the City, My Boys, Felicity, and
Friends. Kelly, meanwhile, is a Canadian actress who played Libby on the Showtime series
Jeremiah from 2003 to 2004 and currently as Sara Collins in the Fox drama
Vanished.
The NBC Universal-owned network is set to change its name to SyFy in July but, obviously, will phonetically sound the same. According to the network, the change means it shouldn't be narrowly confined to science fiction material, but rather include fantasy, paranormal, adventure, and even action.
