Viva Hollywood hasn't finished airing its pilot run yet but contestant
Berto Colon has already landed roles in three upcoming films, including
Doorman, Capers and
Fighting, and has acquired parts on several daytime soaps. Nevertheless, he still can't say whether he won or not.
What Colon can confirm is that he learned so much from the VH1 competitive reality series. Beyond all the drama that went on in the house, Colon explains that the acting portion of the program was good.
“I considered it being on a major feature set for a month,” Colon said. “Technically, I feel I can step onto any situation and be technically sound. It's what the experience was about. Obviously, there was the element of reality, but even that helped me tremendously, by having a camera following me around and learning to be comfortable.”
Initially, though, Colon didn't know what to expect upon joining
Viva Hollywood, a show judged by Maria Conchita Alonso and Carlos Ponce that follows aspiring Latinas and Latinos vying for a part on a telenovela. He found out about the show through a casting agent, who told him that the show would be different than the usual reality fare.
“I didn't know what to expect,” the 34-year-old actor said. “It was a competition. I was a little apprehensive. So much of it is about people wanting to make a name for themselves by being on a reality show. I certainly didn't want to be labeled that way. [Acting] is what I want to do. This is a career choice I'm making. It's not a fly-by-night type of thing. I'd rather struggle 10 years in the theater than get myself involved in a situation I'm not proud of.”
Meanwhile, fans can catch Berto Colon, who is still in the running on
Viva Hollywood every Sunday at 10pm on VH1.
