is making a comeback. Following the successful Kickstarter campaign to make a Veronica Mars
film, a new web series is coming soon that will continue the saga, sort of.
Ryan Hansen, who plays Dick Casablancas, will star in a new web series written by Veronica Mars
creator Rob Thomas called Play It Again, Dick
. In the series, Hansen plays a fictionalized version of himself who is trying to make a new TV show centered on his character. The meta series will debut on the CW Seed starting the week of September 15.
Besides Hansen, many other Veronica Mars alums will return
as fictionalized versions of themselves and the characters they played in the show-within-the-show. Here's a rundown of who's coming back.Actors Playing Themselves and Their Characters
Kristen Bell (Veronia Mars), Jason Dohring (Logan), Percy Daggs III (Wallace), Enrico Colantoni (Keith Mars), Dean Norris (Cliff), Francis Capra (Weevil), Christopher B. Duncan (Clarence Weedman) and Kyle Gallner (Beaver) will all appear as themselves and the characters they played on Veronica Mars
in Hansen's new series. The one confusing name on that list is Gallner, since Beaver (Dick's brother) died at the end of season 2.Actors Only Playing Themselves
Chris Lowell (Piz) and Ken Marino (Vinnie Van Lowe) will both appear on Play it Again, Dick
, but they will only play themselves, meaning there is no Piz or Vinnie in the fictional spin-off within the show.Actors Only Playing Their Characters
Amanda Noret (Madison Sinclair in the Veronica Mars
film) and Lisa Thornhill (Celeste Kane) will play their characters on the show-within-the-show, but will presumably not be playing themselves.New Additions
Ryan Devlin, who played Hearst rapist Mercer in the show's third season, will return for the web series as himself, but he will also be playing the role of Duncan Kane on the show-within-the-show, replacing the original Duncan, Tedyy Dunn.
Also, two of the stars from Rob Thomas' new CW series iZombie
will take on roles in this web series. Robert Buckley will play a flamboyant choreographer named Gaston who will replace Dohring as the new Logan in the fictional show. And Rose McIver will play a skank and a horny mourner.
Other new additions include Wesley Chan, Philip Wang, and Chris Dinh, plus CW president Mark Pedowitz and CW head of development Thom Sherman as themselves.
That's a whole lot of weird, complex meta-comedy going on with actors playing themselves, their characters and some actors playing new characters who replace the actors playing the original characters. Play It Again, Dick
is sure to be one weird, wild ride.(Image courtesy of the CW)
