Can you believe we're almost to the end of the Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars season? Only two weeks remain until the show crowns its champion of champions, and only five celebrities remain in contention for that coveted honor. Check out what to expect from the DWTS semi-finals here!
The Double Elimination
Yes, this week marks yet another double elimination on Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars
. You can blame scheduling for this one. In order to have only three couples remaining when the show hits the finals next week, they have to eliminate two more couples in the semi-finals.
This is going to be a very important week for the competition. The Theme
Because you can't have Dancing with the Stars
without a zillion theme weeks, it's always a good idea to ask what the theme might be. For the semi-finals, that theme is a celebration of the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson's Bad
Yes, you can feel old now.
ABC is airing a Michael Jackson special on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 22), which is why they like this theme. All that cross promotion and stuff. Whatever their reasons, this theme means that each of the remaining couples will perform to music from the album. So there will be a lot of Michael Jackson. The Dances
Each couple will need to perform two separate dances in the semi-finals. One of those dances was chosen last week by the other dances -- this will be a totally new style set to a very specific theme. The other performance will be one of three Latin dances.
- Kelly and Val -- Flamenco, Rumba
- Emmitt and Cheryl -- Lindy Hop, Tango
- Apolo and Karina -- Jazz, Rumba
- Shawn and Derek -- Bhangra, Argentine Tango
- Melissa and Tony -- Hustle, Argentine Tango
The week 8 elimination of Gilles Marini (who had the highest cumulative score at 275.5 points) means we have a bit of shaking up happening on the overall leader board. It's a very close competition -- and just about anyone could make the finals.
1. Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani -- 274 total points
2. Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough -- 273 total points
3. Apolo Anton Ohno and Karina Smirnoff -- 270 total points
4. Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke -- 267 total points
5. Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy -- 260.5 total points
