The cast of
Ugly Betty just can't get babies out of their minds. First, everyone's abuzz with news of co-star
Rebecca Romjin having twins on the way. Next, there's executive producer
Salma Hayek who's inseparable from her 11-month old daughter, Valentina. Now, following the trend, cast member
Ana Ortiz claims that she's feeling the pressure of having a child of her own.
Ana Ortiz was spotted at the
Ugly Betty season three premiere party at Highbar in New York, and was interviewed by
People magazine. Claiming that she really wanted to have kids, she added, “It's definitely something that my husband [musician Noah Lebenzon] and I talk about all the time.”
The 37-year old actress even admitted that her costar,
America Ferrera, has given her the most encouragement in starting a family. “America, she's my little guru. She's only 24 years old, but she gives me advice all the time,” she said.
Ortiz then quoted a memorable incident that she credits Ferrera for. “I remember when I first got engaged, she wanted me to have babies right away, and I said, ‘I can't, they'll fire me!'' And she told me, ‘Don't live your life in fear. You have to do what you want to do; you can't stop your life for TV.'”
There's nothing to worry about now, since Ortiz expressed her wish to the show's execs. She's not going to lose her TV gig for that. “I have the most supportive producers, but I would do it, even if they didn't want me to,” she joked.
As to her onscreen life, Ana Ortiz exclaimed that there could just be a little bundle of joy on the way. On the probability of her character having a child, she said, “I think with my character Hilda it's something that can definitely happen. Just a little more drama for her!”
Though none of us could immediately deduce the fate of Ana Ortiz's character yet, we can already catch the new season of
Ugly Betty next week. Premiering on Thursday, September 25 on ABC, the series will return with the episode “The Manhattan Project.”
